Chapter 21: Give Me One Reason I Shouldn't Kill You

[The Gilbert House front door is wide open, and Adela and Elijah is standing in front of Elena.]

ELENA: Elijah. Adela

ELIJAH: Hello again.

[Adela, Elijah, Matt, Stefan, and Elena are together in the kitchen.]

ELIJAH: All we need is to take that stake away from him. Once he's been disarmed, the weapon's in my possession, my family will scatter to the ends of the Earth and Alaric will follow us.

STEFAN: And you'll just run?

[Stefan sits next to Elena. Adela sat there trying real hard not to rip his heart out, she tried to remember he didn't mean to kill Esmée. It wasn't his fault but all she could think about was killing him. She tried to imagined driving Elena off Wickery Bridge, then ripping his heart out. Because that was how she felt when Esmée died.]

ELIJAH: We've done it before. Klaus and Rebekah spent the better part of a thousand years evading my father. What's another half century while Elena is able to live out the rest of her natural life?

ELENA: We've finally stopped him, Elijah. After everything that he's done to us, I can't just let you bring him back.

ELIJAH: I give you my word, Elena. I will not revive Klaus within yours nor even within your children's lifetimes.

ADELA: Perhaps that will finally teach him some manners.

MATT: Why should she trust you? All you've done is screw her over.

ADELA: Wait who are you?

MATT: Matt Donvan.

ADELA: Still not ringing a bell. 

ELIJAH: And for that, I am deeply ashamed. But know this, she could have been dead the instant I walked through that door tonight, so Elena, I leave it to you to make the decision whether to trust me or not.

[Suddenly, Damon responds. He is on the phone from the road.]

DAMON: Not! Hello? Did that concussion give you brain damage?! His lunatic daughter and siblings will kill you the first chance they get!

[Adela was glaring at Stefan, zoning out and not really listening.] 

ELIJAH: Rebekah and Kol will honor the terms. Adela?

ADELA: [Snapping out of it] What?

ELIJAH: Will you honor the terms. 

ADELA: I plan on leaving this town the first chance I get because never want to she any of your faces ever again. And if I was going to kill anyone it would him. [She pointed to Stefan.]

ELENA: Wait why?

ADELA: Remember Esmée? [Elena nodded remembering the kind vampire] Do want to know who turned her? [They realized] Sage... [She gave them a murderous glare, Elijah placed his hand on hers trying to calm her.]

ELIJAH: If you return Klaus' body to us, Elena will come to no harm.

[Elena looks at Stefan.]

ELIJAH: Do we have a deal?

DAMON: No! No, no, no, no! Did I mention no?

STEFAN: Elena, it's up to you.

DAMON: Oh, come on!

ELENA: Why do you want Klaus' body?

ELIJAH: He's my brother. We remain together.

ELENA: [sighs] We have a deal.

In the Woods

[Adela and Elijah is standing in the woods. Rebekah shows up behind them, still in tears.]

REBEKAH: He's gone. There was nothing I could do to stop it.

[Rebekah, Adela and Elijah walk towards each other and embrace.]

ELIJAH: Tyler Lockwood is dead, but the rest survived. You said that Niklaus turned their bloodline.

REBEKAH: I thought he did.

ELIJAH: It wasn't me, it wasn't Kol.

REBEKAH: It wasn't me, Elijah. It was Niklaus, I'm sure of it.

ELIJAH: Then how are they still alive?

[Stefan answers his phone. Adela and Rebekah are on the other end.]

STEFAN: Hello?

ADELA: You're alive. 

REBEKAH: Congratulations.

STEFAN: Rebekah. Adela

REBEKAH: Elijah spoke to Elena. Her and Matt should be arriving back in town any minute.

STEFAN: Yeah, he told me that. He also said you two would be long gone out of town by now.

ADELA: That's the problem. Elijah says we have to run, that the hunter will keep coming after us, but I don't want to run anymore. I spent my whole life running.

STEFAN: What are you talking about? We had a deal.

REBEKAH: I'm sorry, but Klaus is dead. There is no deal. If my brothers and I are going to survive, 

ADELA: We need to get rid of Alaric and the only way to get rid of Alaric...

STEFAN: No. [Adela took the phone]

ADELA: I contemplated killing you so many times but then I had idea. You killed the woman I love know I'm going to kill the woman you love. 

STEFAN: Adela-- [She hung up]

[Adela and Rebekah are the figures standing in the road. Matt swerves to avoid them and sends the truck flying over the guardrail and into the water.]
