Lol you might've guessed what this is about already 😂

Lin had this night planned for months. She had everything ready, with no detail left behind, as if she were planning an ambush on the triads. Except that this was much more stressing than the triads. She had never been so nervous in her entire life, she couldn't help but wonder if it was the right timing, if Kya would say yes. They had been together for almost three years, but it didn't mean that she was sure of anything.

"Are you ready?" Kya asked, wrapping her arms around her girlfriend's waist from behind. Lin shivered, and took a deep breath. They were going to Air Temple Island to have dinner with Tenzin and his family, team avatar and Lin's family. And their best friend, Izumi, would be there too. For the first time in what seemed like years, they'd all be reunited. The six of them, the children of Team Avatar, would be having dinner with their families. "I am," Lin answered, turning around to kiss Kya's lips softly. Kya chuckled and pulled away, oblivious to what her girlfriend was planning to do later that night.

They held hands while walking to the ferry together, and joined Izumi there, escorted by three bodyguards. "Hey," the Firebender said with a huge smile. She bowed respectively to the both of them, who did the same. They would probably wait to be without the bodyguards to have a real reunion. "So, how have you been? It's been so long!"the Fire Lord said excitedly. Kya leaned against the guardrail, inviting Lin to lean against her. "It's not been that long! I visited you in the Fire Nation four months ago!" Kya protested. She glanced at the bodyguards, wondering if they'd follow her on the Island as well. "I know! But I feel like I haven't seen Lin in a decade!"

"Actually, we've seen each other past year, during the whole Kuvira thing," Lin said, looking at her girlfriend with a smile. She could feel the little box in her pocket, and had no idea if it made her feel worse or better. "True. But I didn't get the occasion to see you two as girlfriends. I can't believe it, Lin Beifong has a girlfriend!" the Firebender said with a smirk. The Earthbender groaned and tried to step away from Kya, but her girlfriend didn't let her go. "Shut up!" Lin protested.

The bodyguards took a threatening posture as the chief of police insulted their leader, and Izumi glared at them. "Leave us," she said coldly. The two poor guards took a step back, scared of her. "But, My Lord—" the tallest one started, not knowing what to do. He would never disobey his Fire Lord, but he would also never forgive himself if she ever got hurt. "Leave. Us. Find my daughter, instead of being useless and annoying me here," Izumi said in a bored tone. Kya chuckled. "You lost your daughter?" Izumi rolled her eyes, trying not to smile as she glared at the bodyguards. "Just get out of here, I'm safe! Even if I actually needed protection, I'm with the most talented benders in all Republic City. Now go check on the princess," she ordered. The two guards bowed and walked away, to the other end of the ferry.

Izumi sighed and looked back at her friends, a tender smile appearing on her face as she saw how they were hugging tightly. Kya had her arms around Lin's neck, and the Earthbender was burying her nose in the crook of her girlfriend's neck. "So, what do you mean you lost your daughter?" Kya asked again, chuckling. Lin smirked, looking at Izumi as well. The Firebender laughed. "I didn't lose her, she just tends to lose her bodyguards a lot... teenagers." The Earthbender scoffed and took a step away from Kya, facing her best friend. "You did that too! All the time! To go see Bumi," she said with a smirk. Izumi's grin disappeared when she heard the name, and she bit her lip. "Yeah, can we not mention that fact?" she asked, embarrassed. The two other women chuckled, and got back into their initial positions.

When the ferry arrived to the island, they were greeted by Bumi and Iroh, who were talking outside. Kya hugged her brother as Lin stayed behind, she still hated any contacts that weren't from her girlfriend. Bumi and Izumi greeted each other awkwardly, making the Fire Lord's friends and son laugh. "They're all waiting for you," Iroh said with a smile. Kya smiled at Lin, who rolled her eyes but reached for her girlfriend's hand anyway. Though she would never admit it out loud, she was excited for that night, and couldn't wait to be with all of her friends again.

"Yeah, that's true! But who could blame me!?" Everyone laughed at Kya, who had just been caught staring at Lin, and devouring her with her eyes while the Earthbender fought Su in a bending competition. The two Beifongs had ended up in final of the earth one, after defeating the twins, Korra and Bolin. After the youngest ones went to bed, they had decided to have this little competition to decide which was the best bender in each element.

"Shut up, you're distracting me,"  Lin whispered while clenching her jaw, sweaty. She and Su had been fighting over control on a boulder for ten minutes at least, and both of them looked exhausted. Kya couldn't help but smile, though she was embarrassed to have been caught. She bit her lip when she saw how tensed the sisters were, it wouldn't last much longer. "Come on, Su, you know you can't win," Lin smirked, clenching her fists. Su was much paler than usual, and she staggered backwards, before losing control. Lin cheered silently, and Kya jumped on her, proud. She pecked her cheek with a huge smile. "Good job, love," the healer said with a huge smile.

Lin smiled and wrapped her arm around Kya's shoulders, smiling too. "Should we get back inside?" she then asked, starting to feel more nervous as she wondered if it was the right moment. "I was thinking maybe we could go for a walk," Kya said with an innocent smile. Lin smiled, she didn't mind. She had planned on proposing in front of everyone, but now that she thought about it, she would much rather do something small, just the two of them. "Sure. We'll join you in a moment," Lin said to the others, taking her girlfriend's hand in hers.

Everyone watched as they walked away hand in hand, they were all, without exception, extremely happy for them.

As soon as they were out of sight, Kya giggled and stopped, kissing Lin on the lips. The Earthbender answered it for a moment, before pulling away, confused. "It's full moon," Kya whispered, resting her forehead against Lin's. Her girlfriend simply smiled, she didn't really understand why the healer was saying this. "It makes me happy," Kya simply shrugged. The Earthbender chuckled, and pulled away to walk with her in a comfortable and easy silence, before she finally dared to do what she had wanted to do all night.

Lin decided to stop on the beach, where they used to go when they sneaked out as teenagers. She let go of Kya's hand, and tugged her hands in her pockets. It was the easiest way to get the box out of it discretely. "I love you," she whispered. Kya chuckled and blushed slightly, making Lin's heart beat faster. The fact that she was able to make her girlfriend blush, even after all these years, always made her feel invincible. "I love you too," the healer whispered back, taking a step closer.

Lin took a deep breath and exhaled, twice. "I love you more than anyone else, and more than I thought I could ever love anybody. And you— you know how bad I am at this, and I don't want to embarrass you, or myself." She paused, nervous. Kya was smiling, though she didn't really seem to understand what was going on. Lin took another deep breath, and kneeled, pulling out the little box in which the betrothal necklace was. "What I'm trying to say is, you're the love of my life, and I want to spend the rest of it with you. So please, Kya, will you marry me?" she whispered as she opened the box, her heart beating faster than ever. The biggest smile she'd ever seen appeared on Kya's face and she threw herself in her girlfriend's -no, fiancée's- arms and kissed her passionately. "Yes!" Kya said excitedly, giggling happily.

Lin smiled back, hugging her tightly. She finally allowed herself to release a breath she didn't know she was holding, and buried her face in the crook of her fiancée's neck. Kya pulled away to look at the betrothal necklace, a blue stone with both the Southern Water Tribe waves and the Earth kingdom symbol, both simple and beautiful. "Let me put this on you," Lin whispered. Kya giggled again and nodded, turning around to allow her fiancée to put the necklace on. "I love you," the healer whispered happily, rubbing the necklace on her bare skin. The Earthbender smiled and laid her forehead against her fiancée's. "I love you too. So much."
