They're so fucking underrated, I had to write abt them
(For the ones who don't know, it's the ship name for Avatar Kyoshi and Rangi, her gf)
Anyway, enjoy!

Rangi had been walking for hours now, and she started to get tired of it. The fact that Kyoshi was probably already back by now was highly motivating, but her legs didn't agree with her heart. Why wasn't there a quicker way to travel? The little girl walking behind her was crying silently, and she couldn't help but feel tears filling her own eyes. It reminded her so much of the day she'd lost her father, when her mother had came to her to tell her that she wouldn't see Junsik ever again.

She slowed down a little, she couldn't wait to see Kyoshi again, but the little girl seemed too tired to walk that fast. Her envies would have to go second. She sighed and kneeled next to the child, who backed up a little. "I'm not going to hurt you. I know you're tired, do you want me to carry you?" she asked softly, doubting that the girl would trust her that easily. She didn't even tell her name.

She was probably around four or five, her hair was somewhere between brown and red, and she had big green eyes that reminded Rangi of Kyoshi's. The biggest physical difference between the Avatar and that child was the height, Kyoshi had always been way too tall, while this child seemed to be so tiny that the wind might take her away. The Firebender had found her in a half-burnt house, ruins from a huge fight that took place in a village quite far away from Yokoya. Apparently, it had been going on for days and Rangi had been called to calm things down, as the Avatar's advisor, bodyguard and friend. Kyoshi and Hei-Ran couldn't be there, since she had been called on a political mission for the day and it had been decided that Jinpa would be the one going with her, while Rangi would stay in Yokoya.

When the Firebender had found that little girl in those ruins, she had understood. Kyoshi had told her how she felt when she lost both of her parents, she had felt like it too when her father died. It had been easy to guess that that child was an orphan. It hadn't taken many words to Rangi to convince her to follow her, the Firebender knew Kyoshi would be grateful for her to have helped an orphan.

"Do you want to tell me what your name is?" she asked softly. Once again, the little girl didn't answer. She hadn't said a single word since Rangi had found her, and she probably wouldn't anytime soon.

As soon as she saw the gate, Rangi got excited. Kyoshi would probably be waiting for her right inside, and the Firebender would finally be able to hug her lover. She had been carrying the little girl tightly in her arms for the past hour. She was happy about it, if the child had fallen asleep in her arms, then it meant she wasn't scared of her. Not anymore, at least.

A big smiled appeared on Rangi's face when the gate opened and she almost ran towards it, but then noticed it wasn't Kyoshi but her mother. A disappointed look appeared on her face, but she tried to hide it. Hei-Ran looked surprised to see a little girl sleeping in her daughter's arms, and she walked closer to see what was happening. "She's an orphan, I found her in ruins of a house. I couldn't leave her there, she reminds me so much of Kyoshi..." the young Firebender explained, feeling pain in her heart from thinking about how miserable her girlfriend was before Kelsang took her in. She was so grateful to the monk.

Her mother nodded, and looked at the girl's asleep face. "What's her name?" she whispered, not wanting to wake her up. "I don't know. She didn't say a word," Rangi answered, rubbing the child's cheek. The older Firebender sighed and nodded, before gesturing towards the inside of the mansion. "Well for now, we should let her sleep. We'll make sure she tells us in the morning. I'll stay by her side so she doesn't get nervous about where she is when she wakes up," Hei-Ran suggested, walking towards the mansion. Her daughter nodded in agreement with the plan. "Where's Kyoshi?" the young Firebender asked, worried about not having seen her girlfriend yet. "She was exhausted, I sent her to bed but she's probably waiting for you anyway," her mother answered. Rangi couldn't help but chuckle, she laid her hand on her mother's elbow as a goodnight gesture, and walked towards the mansion.

She walked into the room she shared with the Avatar, almost sure she would find her leaning over books and ancient documents while waiting for her lover to return. She certainly didn't expect Kyoshi to be already in bed, and deeply asleep. Rangi smiled softly and took her armor off as silently as possible, unpinned her topknot, and slid under the blankets, resting her head on her girlfriend's chest. She loved falling asleep in that position, feeling Kyoshi's heartbeat against her ear.

After a long and exhausting day, she finally closed her eyes and fell into a well deserved sleep.

Kyoshi woke up to the light of the sun in the sky, and smiled when she felt Rangi's head on her chest, and the smaller Firebender's arms wrapped around her. She remembered falling asleep before her bodyguard came back, so Rangi had probably joined her later. The Avatar had missed waking up next to her lover, feeling Rangi's hot breath against her skin and her soft black hair rubbing against Kyoshi's face.

Kyoshi stayed in bed, waiting for her lover to wake up with a tender smile. She cursed when someone knocked on the door, causing for Rangi to wake up. "Yes?" Kyoshi asked. Her lover groaned and tightened her grip around the taller woman, burying her face in the Avatar's chest. "The headmistress requires your presence, Master Rangi," a servant said shyly. The Firebender sighed and kissed Kyoshi's jaw softly, before standing up.

It took Rangi less than ten minutes to have her armor on and her hair up, while Kyoshi still laid in bed lazily. "Come on, get up," her bodyguard said, taking her hand. The Avatar rolled her eyes but did, and placed a small kiss in the smaller woman's hair. "I'll join you when I'm ready, go ahead," she said softly. Rangi nodded, and smiled before walking out of the room.

Kyoshi's eyes widened when she walked into the room, and saw a little girl eating between Rangi and Hei-Ran as mother and daughter seemed to discuss an important matter. "Hey," she said in a surprised tone. Her bodyguard turned to her and smiled, showing a chair next to her for Kyoshi to sit in. "Can someone please explain?" the Avatar asked, confused. "Indeed. While we were away, Rangi has been called to help some village, where she found an orphan, Koko. She brought her here, and was now expressing the possibility that you two—" Hei-Ran was interrupted by her daughter, who slammed her fist on the table. "Mother!" she protested.

Rangi took Kyoshi's arm, and dragged her outside. The smaller woman folded her arms, and glared at her mother through the door left open. Kyoshi almost chuckled, but she knew the only thing it would get her to was more horse stance training. "I was— I just thought maybe we could keep her, you know? I don't want an innocent child starving because whoever will be missioned to take care of her didn't do it," Rangi explained. Kyoshi smiled, and leaned in to kiss her girlfriend on the head. "Are you sure? That would be a big responsibility," she said. She wanted that child to be safe as well, but she was scared that her position as the Avatar would make it hard to deal with something as needy as a child. "Yes. Besides, my mother already promised me that she would help us," Rangi answered. Kyoshi smiled and hugged her one last time. "Alright. Let's go back, shall we?"

Kyoshi walked to the little girl, who stayed silent. She seemed terrified, malnourished and exhausted. "Hi. I'm Kyoshi. Would you like to stay with us for a moment? We can help you, and take care of you," she asked softly. Koko nodded shyly, still not saying anything. The Avatar smiled, and laid her hand on the child's thigh. "Well, welcome then. Do you need anything?" The little girl shook her head.

Rangi looked at them with a tender smile, chuckling as Kyoshi managed to make Koko laugh. She was sure that the Avatar would be perfect for this child, and could already see a bright future for the three of them, as a family.

I've been wanting to write abt Rangshi for a moment now, I'm glad I did even though it might not have been as good as I wanted it to be 😬

Anyway, hope you liked it
Oh, and if any of you haven't read the Kyoshi novels, I recommend them. Yes, Rangi and Kyoshi are canon, and they're way too cute.
