Resting his boot against the head, Toby retrieves his hatchet with a squelching sound.
For a moment, he seems to ponder to himself. Weighting the trusty blade on his dexterous hand, moving it around as if to test the balance. It seems like an extension of his hand, naturally blending in with the rest of his limbs.
His neck twitches to the left and the joint groans but fails to pop.
Only for Toby to bring his hatchet down savagely.
The sound of the blade cutting the air in two permeates the alley. Fusing with the cracking of bones and the squelching of brains being mushed against the pavement. Yet these are the only sounds to be heard, not a single word escaping the deranged man as he brings out all his maniacal fury against the dead Proxy until there is nothing left for him to be recognized in any sort of way.
'That is enough.' Another authoritative voice slashes the air, and after another round of hits, Toby seizes his movements and straightening his body, remains completely still.
'We still need to bring the body to Jack for further investigation.' Hoody orders, coming out of the shadows with Kate close behind him.
The female regards the corpse with the interest of someone staring at a blank white wall. Bending down silently, she collects the phials of the poison.
Toby, on the other hand, returns to his aloof state, shoving his hands into his pockets and staring at the other end of the alley.
Hoody knows by now that this was as close as he would get to a response.
'He appears to have very progressed poisoning' Kate lifts his sleeve with her two fingers as if she were touching something utterly repulsive 'Coherent enough to run away from us, yet reduced reflexes made him an easy target. Jack'll be damn happy with the phials.'
She rummages through the rest of the pockets in search of anything that can be useful. Toby has lost all interest in them and has occupied himself with watching the blackened skies as if they hold the key to all their questions. Hoody is watching the raven-haired woman closely, gaze falling upon her shoulders heavily, but after these three months, she has neither the energy nor the will to deal with him anymore.
Or any of them for that matter.
There is a coldness eating away at her chest, stopped briefly upon times they receive orders.
Proxies continue dying left and right, and not always by Toby's hand.
Time has run out for all of them and Slenderman's wrath can be felt bubbling acidly within their veins.
'Make sure you do not miss anything.'
'How about you do it then, instead of sitting back and scratching your balls?!' comes the snarky remark off her lips before she had the chance to stop herself 'Maybe then you'll stop saying it's all our fuck-ups.'
She knows her little outburst takes Hoody by surprise; she can feel it in the way he shifts his weight from one foot to the other, debating. Kate rarely swears at them; they are her comrades and Hoody is something more than that, a category of his own, yet Kate never swears at them no matter how much they push her to insanity. She swears close to them, not at them. So now that she does, it feels so alien and strange, another wave of electricity within her veins that she simply... cannot find the will to care anymore.
She doesn't care, there is nothing to care about.
There is only numbness and so, so much anger.
'Kate-'
'I don't want to talk about it.' She barks emotionlessly, reigning in the chaos erupting in her chest.
