It Started on Lazy Day

Part 1

  I took a small portion of the fluid and put it into a test tube when no one was looking. I added a drop of blood and it turned yellow... I'm an omega... should I say something? But I already lied... No. If this gets out it'll be embarrassing. No one will ever know.

--- Present Day (High School)---

"I'm still kinda sad, Sonic's a beta so no one other than Betas can date him."

"Are you stupid? Alphas can date betas. Go ask him out," I could hear two girls talking about me.

  If they knew, it'd be a disaster.

  I could only speak from experience. When my friends each found out I was an omega, it was lucky they all offered to help. They all found out over summer break.

--- Last Summer (One Lazy Day)---

  Ding! The doorbell was going off... it was too early for visitors...

"Hm?" I checked the time, it was nine am, "It's too early for this..."

"I'll get it Sonic, you just rest," Tails shouted.

"Okay!" I shouted back. He's a good kid... I adjusted myself in bed and proceeded to fall back asleep.

"Sonic, um... everyone is here," Tails came in a woke me back up.

"Huh? Why?" I panicked a bit. Today was supposed to be one of my lazy days. No one had plans that involved me. Why are they all here?!

"Surprise!" They were all suddenly in my doorway and coming into my room.

"Why?" I pulled the shirt was wearing down. I'm wearing shorts, good. I didn't kick them off last night.

"Who is this?" They were all staring.

"It's Sonic," Tails smiled, "Come on. Let's go downstairs."

"Wait, let me brush my teeth at least."

"Who are you?"

"Sonic!" I answered their repeated question.

"They've never seen you with your quills down," Tails giggled to himself.

"You look so pretty~" Amy smiled.

"Please don't call me pretty," I sighed.

  It was supposed to be my lazy day. I hadn't brushed my quills or used gel on them today since I was sleeping in. They were undone in a curly, wavy mess of soft quills that felt like nothing more than normal fur.

"Eh? You style them your usual way?!" Amy looked shocked.

"Why did that shock you?" I was still tired but I might as well play along until they go back home.

"Anyway, since we all are heading to high school, we need to retake our hormone exams," Blaze answered, "Highschools require them so they know exactly how many omega students they have in case of an emergency," Blaze opened her backpack and handed each of us a new self-testing kit.

"What about the test from middle school?" I asked.

"Those were two years ago. We need one that's accurate. Most students who were beta could be late bloomers. You might test as an alpha now. Aren't you curious?" Silver opened his, "I tested as a beta, just like you. I wonder if mine changed."

"Really?" But if it comes up as omega again... how do I lie with this test?

"Let's go it," Amy started mixing her testing kit and added in a drop of blood.

"Do Amy and Blaze really need to do this? They already know their alphas," Tails said what everyone was thinking.

"But we can't send in photo evidence, that's illegal until we're 18," Amy was saying a completely inappropriate answer, but she was right. The schools needed proof, "Look, it's a brighter blue than before."

"Mine too, I'm still an alpha," Knuckles grinned.

"Can I take a test too?" Tails asked.

"Kids show up as beta until their 13 Tails. It's better to wait," I explained.

"You never know, I could be an early bloomer," Tails whined.

"Okay, okay. Here," I poured some of my test kit into another glass for Tails to try. As we expected, it didn't change color.

"It'll work for sure next year," he wanted to see his results as soon as possible. Most kids did, it was only right they'd be curious.

"Yeah, we can try again next year," I ruffled his fur.

"Alpha!" Silver cheered, "I knew being a beta didn't feel right."

"You're results changed?" I was surprised. I didn't expect Silver's results to actually change.

"Sonic, you're the only one left," Amy smiled.

"Right," But... you're all alphas. Knuckles, Amy, Blaze, Silver. All of them are alphas. I'm sure nothing bad will happen. I have to do this now.

  It went quiet as yellow appeared. I hadn't told them about faking the middle school test, so they never knew I was supposed to be called an omega. Why... why am I the only omega...

"Sonic, isn't this great, now we know for sure you aren't a beta," Amy smiled, "It's an alpha's job to protect their omega, I'll protect you. Okay, Sonic."

"But... I don't need protecting..." I felt so depressed by the results. I should have faked it again...

"If course you do. Alphas will be all over you now. You'll start producing pheromones and going into heat. You should be more worried," Knuckles grabbed me, "You knew already..."

"Mhm... I faked the middle school test. I was always an omega, I don't need saving. I've been able to lie about being a beta, I'm going to keep it that way," I used the pipette to take a drop from Tails test and placed it onto the results card. I wrote my name, sealed it, and poured my results down the sink, "I'll deal with the consequences if the school ever finds out. But I don't want to be involved in relationships. It's too messy for me. Who's the alpha? Why did you pick that omega? I can't date a beta? I don't want any of it."

"If you're going through a big lie, you'll need help," Amy hugged me, "We'll protect you~"

"G-great..."

--- Present (High School) ---

  Ever since they all found out they've treated me a bit differently from what they used to. They started 'protecting' me like I was something fragile. They like to be near me anytime I talk to other alphas or betas. I'm lucky since my pheromones haven't started, and I haven't had my first heat yet. Still... I have no idea when it'll happen. I'll have to skip school until I find a medicine that hides them from alphas...

"Sonic~ don't be so down," Amy nudged me, "You're doing great."

"Thank you, Amy," I felt a bit better with her encouragement.

I still wonder... what will happen to my friends... when it finally happens?
