Chapter XXII: おばあちゃん

Start from the beginning

It would be a lie, if she said that she wasn't mistreated. She knew what her role was, she was the only girl out of six children. While her brother's were treated like they were princes, she just stayed back and watched, content, that at least they were receiving their parent's affection. She never cried, your grandmother, no matter how hurt, alone, or how much despair she felt- she never showed it.

Bei Lian just accepted it, her role, with no fight back

Bei Lian just accepted it, her role, with no fight back.

As soon as she reached the pier, she saw it, the best catch of the sea- a trout! It was her family's favorite, as she was about to talk to the fisherman and bargain the lowest of prices- a young man got to the fisherman first. "I'll take that trout, sir." He spoke, as he handed the man cash that was worth more than that singular catch. The fisherman didn't ask any questions and ran with it, pushing the cash on the deepest crevices of his pocket.

"H-Hey!" Bei Lian yelled, as she grabbed the man's wrist, when he was about to stride past her. "That fish is mine! I saw it first!" She yelled and the young man could only stare at her, a slight smirk plastered on his lips. "Well, I paid for it. Sucks to suck." He towered over the young girl, normally, Mamoru would brush off such incidences- but he couldn't help but stare at the young girl.

He observed her slightly pink dusted cheeks, the dirt on her kimono, the presence of both scars and newly acquired wounds on all of her extremities, and the slight rips all over her tattered kimono. But most importantly, her barely present cursed energy. Yet, he couldn't help but also stare at her heterochromatic eyes. At first glance, he swore that he only saw the color of sapphire-grayish present in her eyes, but now that he was able to get a better look at her- there was a ring of gold around her pupils.

They were most beautiful eyes he'd ever seen

They were most beautiful eyes he'd ever seen. No. She might've just been the most beautiful woman he's ever met.

"W-What are you staring at?" The young woman asked, turning away from the young man with the golden orbs. She felt embarrassed, sure, in the heat of the moment she was angry and wanted the fish for her family- but what was she thinking. Did she really no longer have an ounce of dignity left? She felt the attention of the others on her, and now this young man, who was quite a looker, was eyeing her from head-to-toe. 'He must think I'm ugly both on the inside and the outside', those were the only thoughts that overcame her.
