NATASHA'S POV

The two walked in together looking extremely suspicious. I had already been up for over 2 hours so was already showered and dressed, ready for the day. I was sitting cross legged on my bed, reading some book they had given me.

"Hey Nat"

"Hey" I reached out my arms and he gave me a big bear hug.

Steve sat down beside me and picked up the book I had thrown on the bed when they came in. He started to inspect it, reading the blurb and examining the cover. I looked over to Ava, sitting in one of the uncomfortable plastic chairs.

"Hey Ava"

"Hey nat" I giggled, noticing Ava's tell

"Have you 2 forgotten that I was an agent, and a pretty good one. I think I can tell when people are keeping a secret from me" they both looked at each other and then back at me.

Steve lay back onto my bed and said quite calmly "I don't know what you're talking about" I laughed at him but left them with their secret.

We spent the next hour talking about random things that popped into our minds.

"So, ava, what does your future look like?"

"I don't know really. I've already got my dream job, the best friend ever imaginable, a great boyfriend. I never would have seen myself here 5 years ago. I mean there are still things I want to do, travel the world, learn how to surf, settle down and adopt a dog, maybe even have kids one day. But that's all way off in the future. For right now, my life is pretty great"

I laughed at her

"What?"

"You started off that speech with 'I don't know' and then told us your plan for the rest of your life" she laughed with me.

"How about you Natasha, what does your future look like?"

I stopped laughing and thought for a minute. I genuinely didn't know. I had always seen myself working until I couldn't. That had always been my future, I never figured that I would fall in love with someone, and that they would love me back, that was never a factor to consider. I looked at Steve and my heart skipped a beat. This man had literally changed my life. I felt tears starting to build up. I thought about our future, I thought about what Ava said about her future and a sadness washed over me. Kids. That was something I could never give him. A family. I knew how much family meant to Steve, and I could never give him that, and he didn't know that. The realisation washed over me. It was like a wave, strong and powerful, knocking the air out of me, pushing me down and holding me there. Tears threatened to fall, but I pushed them back.

"Natasha?" Steve held my hand tightly

"I, I dont know" I smiled slightly

A nurse walked in just then to bring me to physio. I stood up off the bed and followed him out of the room, trying not to cry.
