The Dilemma of Time

There are times like these when you really wish you were a kid,

able to play the day away,

toys, dolls, and games galore.

Carefree,

the only stress of the day: eating your vegetables.

No waiting in turmoil,

only waiting for snack time.

No waiting in pain,

only waiting to go to the bathroom.

But those days are gone,

and you are left at the hands of the world,

not the hands of those who love you.

Those who protect you,

those who never let anything hurt you.

You stand on the brink of a child’s life,

wondering if they will remember this day you’ve spent with them.

Will you remember this day?

And then you’re missing it,

so desperately.

You’re in despair,

like the smallest of breezes could sweep you away,

off to oblivion.

You see not the point in the folly of everyday life.

You yearn for adulthood,

yet cry for childhood.

It is gone.

It is g o n e

For that is the dilemma of time:

you cannot go back.
