"will you never curl your hair again?"
i ask
as the quiver in my voice comes through

i remember you
differently than the newer ones do

i remember your gentle eyes
and your brace-locked smiles
the times you'd still like flowers
that didn't look like they'd died

i wouldn't compare the two
that old and this newer you
but i remember so well how the petals grew
waiting two hours for a response from you

oh my
the infatuation
at such a young age

it was so pure
and so secretive
and never made sense

i loved the idea
of a you who was fake
liked the person
who was dressed in floral hate

so i am glad
that nowadays
you don't have to be sad
while dressed in black
