"So who is Shadow, and why is he... evil?" Steve asked.

Herobrine sighed. He looked away as a silent tear fell, his eyes dimming as he thought of the past.

"L-Lick?" Herobrine shivered and he leaned over to the said person.

Lick sighed as he hugged Herobrine.

"It... it was a dark past." He began.

"N-no... Lick, no." Herobrine muttered.

Lick patted his head and sat down as he continued. Everyone sat down after him.

"Shadow was our friend." He said, taking off his mask. "Long before."

Herobrine lifted his head weakly. "He... was my first friend, right after I left... my f-family."

Steve turned to Herobrine blankly, but his eyes betrayed him. His eyes were full of contept, sadness and regret. Notch put his arm around Steve, looking at Herobrine.

"We were all friends, us Steves and him." Rainbow Steve said, staring at Herobrine worriedly.

Herobrine curled up on Lick's lap.

"Please... don't talk about it." He whispered.

Boss Steve ruffled his hair, than continued. "We at last accepted hin in our family as a Steve."

Green Steve looked away.

Blue Steve went over and hugged Green Steve, all the while looking at Herobrine.

Sophie asked, "So he was good. What made him change?"

"We did." Entity_404 replied. "I remember now."

Herobrine curled up even smaller, if that's possible.

"We drove him away." God Steve whispered. The other Steves nodded in agreement.

"How did I not know about this?" Steve asked.

"We are glitches, much like... Herobrine." Blue Steve said.

Herobrine interjected. "Do... do not call me a-a a g-glitch." He shivered.

"He is sensitive to that." Boss Steve said.

"On with the story!" Gold Steve said excited. The he looked around at the other's somber faces. "Oh." He backed away. "Sorry."

Bedrock Steve continued the story. "Shadow Steve had a child with a mortal."

Lick said, "Shadow."

Galaxy sobbed, and Sophie patted her back.

"After... we found out that Shadow Steve had turned evil." Lick sighed. He looked at Herobrine. "I... I killed his wife."

Herobrine scrambled back. "N-no. D-don't-t talk-k a-about t-this..."

Lick hugged him as Herobrine leaned over to him.

"Why... is Hero like this?" Notch asked.

"He strives to forget the dark past." Lick looks down at the fragile form laying down on him. "He... also has a dark past he wants to forget about."

Notch looks down. "My fault." He whispered. Steve stared at Notch. "It's my fault too."

Herobrine looked at them, his glowing eyes flashing red for a second.

"So when he finds a friend who shares the same... beliefs, he grows fond of them. And when they betray him..." Lick's haunted eyes darts around, looking down in shame. "Well... let's just say the result is not good."
