The morning was cheery. I woke up with a smile on my face, a day of sun danced with the sway of the trees. I look beside me and see Matt gone and a note taped to the pillow.

     Good morning beautiful,
My mom called early in the morning and asked me to come home or else I would have stayed for a million days. You're the love of my life and the light to every day. Btw, you look super cute asleep.
     -Matt

I couldn't help that the smile grew wider with each passing second. I read the note again and again but I lost my smile when I go to check my phone and not a single message from Matt. He always tells me when he arrives home.

I quickly get up and throw on some old sweat pants and Matt's grey hoodie. I don't bother with shoes as I pick up the land line and search for his mothers phone number. I remember writing it down but as I'm punching numbers in the phone rings loudly. Echoing across the empty house.

My fingers shake as I recognize the number. I turn numb as I answer the phone "Hello," I croak.

I didn't expect what came next
