Chapter 14: Dominic

This is a disaster.

Never had I thought I’d sought for Scott Orson’s help. And when I finally came into my senses, it was already too late.

“I thought cliché sells a lot?” he simpers at me after mocking me big time.

“Well, I ran out at the store. It’s a best-seller.” I cross my arms. “So, are you gonna help me or not?”

He smirks at me. “How may I be at service?”

I needed my best friend’s help even though I deny it to farthest dwarf planet in the universe. It turns out; Scott has a soft spot and talent for romantic antiques. Or should I rather say romantic antics?

No wonder he baits a lot of charming young ladies—but doesn’t catch the one.

Sad to say: Our plan playing Prince Charming Ball got backfired at us.

At the very last minute, we found out that Heaven doesn’t have a cell phone. Talk about the antiques—I mean antics of romanticism. Well, I guess there’s no hotline to Heaven after all. That is the sad reality of it and there is no internet connection. That’ll be the worse part. You should add that to the information if you’re jotting down notes.

So, Scott, being the Scott Orson that he is—the “benefactor” now he calls himself, generously lent Anna his older cell phone so that I could save my life (translated as date). But of course, I didn’t tell Anna or else this plan B will sure backfire at us again. Besides, even though there are plenty of letters in the alphabet to use as “plan codes” there isn’t much time—I have a little bit of time with Anna. Heaven knows until when I get to keep her by my side.

Getting Anna to the old music theatre was easier via text message; thanks to Scott Orson, the “benefactor”. I texted her the directions of the location last night and she promised to meet me there at 7pm.

And now, I’m standing in front of the music theatre since past 7pm.

It’s 7:15pm. And no sign of Heaven anywhere.

“You okay, mate?” Scott appears beside me.

I let out a heavy sigh I’ve been repeating since all the clocks here said 7pm.

“Yes, I suppose.” I frown at him. “Aren’t you supposed to be inside making sure everything’s not falling apart?”

He snorts at me. “Yah. I just want to make sure you’re still whole.” He stares me down. “By the look on your face right now, you, my friend, are half way to Fall Apart Hollow.”

I flinch at him but I manage to form a smile with my lips. “That’s kind of dire.” I shrug off. “But I’m okay. I’ll be fine.”

“You sure you gave her the right directions?” he asks.

I sigh out loud. “Scott, this theatre’s three blocks away from her house.” I pointed out. “How in the world will she get lost?”

He shrugs. “I don’t know. A thought just came into my mind that she’s sick. Don’t you think she needed an escort?”

“Ha-ha, Scott.” I tell him. “You just want to escort her so that you could flirt with her.”

He smirks at me.

“But just so you know, she doesn’t hate you. Your tenacious attitude and cockiness just sets her off.”

His smile softens to a point I can no longer read him anymore. “I thought you know me that well.”

“Don’t I?” I counter.

He snickers. “Yes, you do.” He waves at the street. “I still think you should have given her a map.”

I scoff. “I’m sure she knows how to read a text message, Scott.”

Scott holds his hands up. “If you say so, mate. I’ll be inside. Just give me a call if your need an intervention.”

I chuckle as he disappears inside the theatre.

30 minutes.

45 minutes.

1 hour.

Still no Anna.

I don’t know why I’m having deep breaths. I keep pacing like the skies are about to turn grey when it’s obviously black in the night. I don’t understand why my heart feels so heavy like every ticking minute is an additional pound of dumbbell.

“Where’s Anna?” Scott finally says when I saw him coming out of the theatre.”I thought you two ran away already—“ he sees the look on my face and he hurries down to me. “What’s wrong?”

What’s wrong? The question seems to pour a bucket of ice on me. I’ve opened my mouth to say something but then words failed me. All I’ve got was an unknown smile.

I shrug. “I don’t know, Scott.”

I turn to him and his asinine smile fades. “Well… did she call you?”

I shook my head weakly. My head spun. There’s a tornado inside my head. “No.”

He starts to pace. “Did you try calling her?”

My world blurs. “No.”

Scott grabs my arms and shakes me. “Dom!

I opened my eyes wide at him.

“Put. Yourself. Together.” he said.

My pulse rate accelerated speed and my breathing ragged. I looked back at Scott.

“She’s not here. She’s not yet here.” I grasp a few strands of my hair.

“Dom,” he smiles tentatively at me. “Relax. She’s probably on her way.”

I nodded as I pulled myself together. I pulled out my phone and I went to speed dial Anna.

Her phone rings. Rings. And rings.

She picks it up and I sigh in relief.

“Anna—”

Good feelings’ gone when I felt something was wrong. I can hear it in the way she held her breath. It was heavy and over burdened.

“Dom,” her voice cracks.

“Anna, whe—where are you? Are you okay?” I manage to smile as I try to relieve myself from the fear building up inside of me. Scott moves in front of me.

“I-I don’t know.” I hear more cracks. “Dom…”

She breathes heavily.

“…I think I’m lost.”

I turn to Scott who raises his eyebrows at me.

A stupid laugh came out of my system.  I was terrified how ridiculous it came out of me. My deepest fear came into surface and I cannot trust myself to take it.

“How—how come you’re lost?” I said and I see the flash of my own fear, reflected on Scott’s eyes. “You’re house is just three blocks away from here. I gave you directions—”

“Dom,” she cries. “I mean it. I’m lost. I’m lost. I’m lost.”

And I was running down the streets before I even know it.
