Lori burst into Victoria’s office as Victoria ended a call; she brushed her hair back as she tried to regulate her breathing. She held out the newspaper that was in her hands as she walked over to Victoria who looked at her as if she lost her mind. Victoria grabbed the paper and looked down at the first page, her eyes grew wide and a small smile slowly spread across her lips. The paper announced their lawsuit against House to Home would be going to trial; the picture of House to Home’s CEO Jeffery Fox made her stomach turn. He had once been a client of her firm and she knew the man was nothing but a dirt bag, and Victoria could not wait to take him down.

Owen walked into the office and excused Lori from the room and Victoria rolled her eyes as she leaned back in her chair and looked at him.

“What can I do for you Mr. Lawson?”

“I want you to settle the House to Home case.”

“You know that I don’t settle.”

“I don’t care what you don’t do, I’m telling you to settle the damn case.”

“Why?” Victoria yelled at him as she stood up.

“Because I’m telling you too,”

“Since when have I ever done anything you’ve told me to?”

“Look Victoria, you are the best I have and you know it. I need your focus on cases for clients who are actually paying for our representation.”

“You were on board with my handling of the case so what’s the issue now?”

“I know that you’ve beaten them before but that was before Jeffery took over. Just settle.”

“Settling is not winning!” she yelled her eyes darkened with rage.

“You know just as well as I do that Jeffery won’t take this lying down, he’ll come after you with everything he has and I won’t be able to stop him.” Owen said as he closed the distance between them.

“I’m sorry you must have me mistaken for someone who gives a shit. Jeffery Fox can do whatever the hell he wants but I’m going to make sure that the world knows what a scumbag he is and that he pays for it.” She snapped.

“My god Victoria,” Owen groaned as he ran his hand down his face. “Now is not the time for you to be stubborn, you have nothing to prove with this case just drop it.”

“I can’t, I made a promise that I would win this case, and that is exactly what I am going to do. If you have a problem with that I won’t hesitate to give you my letter of resignation.” She said as she stared him down letting him know that she was not bluffing. The more she dug into the case, and met the people behind the lawsuit the more determined she had become.

“If this has anything to do with Melissa and what happened your first year here believe me when I say you have nothing to prove.”

“It has nothing to do with that. I know that I am a damn good lawyer and people are being wronged, I’m going to fix it.” She said waving at him dismissively.

“Fine,” Owen said as he conceded his defeat. “If you lose this case then I’ll be forced to request your dismissal. Are you willing to bet everything you’ve worked so hard for, on this little crusade of yours?”

“You’re damn right I am.” She said with finality, Owen shook his head and said,

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

Victoria watched as Owen walked out of her office as she stripped off her blazer, he had pissed her off that her temperature seemed to be through the roof but he only made her more determined to win.
