Hey guys! :D

This is my third story here on wattpad! :) it was a challenge (and still is) for me to write this one since it came to mind more as a film, and the character personalities were really not easy to describe! I'll give my best! :D

Notice: Somewhere along this story I will feature some of my old characters from my other story called My Celebrity Housemate :D you don't have to read MCH to understand this one though, but feel free! :)

Constructive comments are appreciated :D God bless!

Prologue

Holding my breath, I walked into the bright building with sweaty palms. My heart was beating twice as fast, I knew it was.

I only have one chance to get this right.

My name is Destiny Lockheart, but my friends call me Des. Some people say it reminds them of Miley Cyrus, probably because she used to have the same name.

I'm never really a brains person; the only time when I ever got an A for any other school subject besides English would be when I was seven, that's it. The reason for that, I assume, is probably because I'm more of a...well, music person. Let's just say my piano and I are best friends. Because of that my parents agreed to send me to Dream Arts College, a school made for performing arts. Unfortunately, that school costs a bunch, so I'm pretty desperate for a scholarship.

I stood outside the large polished doors with my keyboard in my hands, filled with hesitation and doubts. This audition means the world to me right now. I knew deep down that I have to win this thing, so I could get the scholarship. If I could get my hands on that prize, everything would fall into place.

I bravely took one step and pushed the doors open. Three pairs of eyes greeted me. The judges really make me shiver, especially that Simon Cowell look-a-like.

"Hello." The lady judge cleared her throat. "Destiny?"

"Yep, that's me." I said nervously and set my keyboard onto the empty stand.

"Whenever you are ready." She said while fixing her attention onto me.

A few seconds later with trembling hands I placed my fingers onto the keys and played the familiar chords. I opened my mouth and began singing, allowing the words to flow naturally. Soon the fear started to diminish; I found my confidence when I hit the chorus. I began to relax myself, hitting the high notes then the low, going from head voice to chest, using the techniques that I can easily work with.

I don't sound too bad.

When the song finally ended, I couldn't help but crack a goofy smile and looked at the judges, not knowing what to expect. The three just sat there with their normal expressions and clapped slowly. Well, at least they clapped.

"Good job." Mr. Simon Cowell look-a-like said with a small smile.

"Alright, thanks for your performance." The lady said. "We will inform you the results in a few minutes, since you're the second last to audition, you shouldn't have to wait long."

"Second last?" I raised a brow.

"Yeah, our last participant should be walking in any minute now."

"Uh, okay! Thanks." I unplugged my keyboard and left the room while carrying it. I just can't stop smiling. I'm sure glad that it's over.

Right outside the door there were five people, four guys and a girl. The guys each held onto an instrument and looked at me. Feeling intimidated I simply smiled, but they didn't smile back.

"Are you done?" said the girl with an attitude. Great, not one of those people again.

"I guess so." I shrugged uncertainly while analyzing the gang. There was a drummer, a bassist, a rhythmist and a lead guitarist. They all look okay, but their band girl really ruined it.

"Well then get out of the way, we don't have much time you know." She rolled her eyes.

"Sorry then." I smiled wryly and walked away, making sure to leave a large space.

I sat on the bench outside of the audition room. I couldn't help but notice how great they were, how talented and skilled the music was played. The more I listened the more nervous I become. Only one participant can win the scholarship, and these guys really look like they have this wrapped around their finger.

A few minutes later the gang left the room gleefully. They started giving each other high fives and did numerous group hugs. All I could do was give a hug to my keyboard. When the rest of the participants started crowding outside the room, I knew that it was time for the results; the moment of truth.

I stood up and joined the crowd. A few people already left with unexcited expressions, it was then when I realized how big of a possibility I could be leaving with a crushed spirit. Just when I finally made my way to the front, a group of people started cheering and exclaimed happily.

"We made it! We got the scholarship!" the same snotty girl shrilled as her band celebrated.

No way, no way, no way.

I quickly turned my attention away and scanned the paper pasted on the door. Suddenly I felt weak, very weak.

I didn't make it. I didn't get the scholarship.

Turning around I resisted the urge to scream and break down on the spot. I can't do that now, not here, not in front of those guys. I grabbed my keyboard and made my way outside of the building. Unfortunately, the winners followed closely behind.

I stood by the bus stand, still trying to hold back the tears. The more they cheered, the more I wanted to tear up. How could they celebrate right in front of me like that? As though by cue, a red bus pulled over. Without hesitation I ran into the vehicle and took the seat all the way at the end, praying that no one noticed the hot tears rolling down my cheeks.

The bus took off, blocking the sound of endless cheering outside, finally leaving my hopes and dreams behind.

So what do you think? :) would love some feedback :D

As some of you may already know, this story was previously named Heartbeat, which I've changed now because the title was overused on wattpad. Now, with that said, I won't delete all the posters and banners that were made by others with the title Heartbeat for this story, so when you see them on display at the side of the chapter, you'll understand why ;) thanks for understanding!

See you soon!
