Chapter 2

I gasped as the frigid water engulfed my body.OMG THIS IS BLOODY FREEZING!!! The shock of the sudden cold seemed to freeze my mind for a second which caused my head slip under water. Survival instincts began to kick in and I hastily began to push towards the surface which was much harder than normal due to my frozen limbs and the heavy weight of my clothing. Kicking with all the energy I had, my head broke the surface and I took a desperate gulp of aim before slipping back under the surface. The current of the water made my attempt to reach the surface again futile and as the need to take another breath overwhelmed me, I panicked.

I tried to hold my breath for as long as possible but I just couldn't hold it anymore. So with my next breath I swallowed mouthfuls of water which caused me to choke. OH GOD, I'M GOING TO DIE! HELP ME PLEASE, SOMEONE! ANYONE! I could feel the familiar heaviness ensnare my body as strong muscular arms wrapped around me just as I fell into unconsciousness.

....

Choking up the river water, I sputtered rolling on to my side. My lungs burned in my chest and my entire body felt icy. I took in deep breaths, greedily taking in the air I had desperately fought to get earlier. Slowly I opened my eyes and found I was staring at someone's very wet legs. I followed the tan coloured trousers up to the deep green tunic which was also soaking wet showing off an incredibly ripped torso, and then up to the most beautiful face I had ever seen. The man was handsome, not in a pretty boy way, but in a rugged and chiselled bad boy kind of way. His chocolate brown eyes, even though they looked down on me with concern, seemed to have a glint of mischievousness to them. His dark hair, which looked almost black in its watered state, clung to his head. If it wasn't for the fact that I had almost drowned I might have been swooning by now. What am I saying I am swooning because man, that boy is HOT!

Realising I had been staring by the smirk that suddenly appeared on his lips, I took a breath and looked deep into his eyes.

"Who are you?"My voice barely above a whisper but he obviously heard me as he stood up and glancing down at me replied in a deep melodious voice.

"I am Nathaniel, but you can call me Nathan. And who might I ask are you?" Nathan hmm that's a nice name sounds familiar though, I'm sure one of the characters on the show was called Nathaniel but he disappeared or something like that.

"My names Arianna, but please, call me Ari."

"Well Ari, as both you and I are very wet" He said looking down at our wet clothes. "I'm going to get some wood for a fire."He then turned and took off into the woods.

Shivering I sat up and looked around. Over by the trees was a horse that obviously belonged to Nathan. He was a gorgeous black stallion; he stood there patiently in the pink light nibbling at the glass uncaring to its surroundings. The sky had turned from a pale blue to a dusky pink as the sun began to set. It seemed hard to think that not long ago I had been getting ready to go on a date and instead I end up here and all because of that bloody money. Grr. Why does this sort of thing have to happen to me??

Several minutes later Nathan came out of the trees with a pile of sticks and logs to make a fire. He dropped them on the ground in front of me then walked over to the stallion retrieving a lighter from the bag and some paper. Ok now this is strange, a lighter in Antoria?! Come on they don't even have electricity, how the hell did he get hold of a lighter. I watched as he crumpled up the paper and burying it amongst the logs. The last piece of paper he held in his hand ready to incinerate once the lighter ignited. He flicked the lighter several times but it was determined not to light. I couldn't help but laugh even though I was freezing cold.

"I think you're out of lighter fluid" I said between fits of laughter.

He just looked at me like i was some odd specimen at the zoo.

"What might I ask is a lighter?" he enquired raising one of his eyebrows giving him a quizzical expression.

"You're holding it!" I giggled. "Where did you get it anyways? They don't exist in Antoria as far as I know."

Nathan tilted his head down, a sheepish expression on his face. "I... I borrowed it."

"Borrowed it?" I raised an eyebrow giving him a look. Aww bless him he looks so guilty "Don't beat yourself up Nate, it doesn't matter they are really cheap anyways. Now we need to concentrate on getting this fire started and then tomorrow you can show me where you got that lighter."

"Sorry but I don't have anything else to start a fire." Great just great!!

I crouched on the floor over the pile of woods whilst rubbing my hands to return the feeling back to my hands. Damn it! Stupid disposable lighters! Bloody useless, always run out when you need them. I just wish I could get this fire to start I thought before blowing hot air into my palms causing a slight tingling to pass over my skin. Instants after the tingles left my skin, a fire erupted on the ground in front of me burning up the small pile of sticks Nate had collected. The heat from the small blaze warmed my frigid skin making me sigh in content.

I turned to look at Nate who just started back at me with shock, fear and something else I couldn't quite place. Uh-oh. Antorians are notorious for hating magic not that many of them believe any more and I got a feeling that fire wasn't spontaneous combustion. OMG, I'm never going to get out here alive and what about the fire? Does that mean Blake was right? Can I really do magic?
