34. Staying Alive

Going undercover (with Darius)

[Ben POV]

Sammy, Yaz, Caleb, and I watch the fighting dinos worriedly.

"How could we let this happen?"

Brooklyn and Kenji come up from behind us.

"What's going on?"

"Why isn't Darius stopping this?"

Big Eatie growls, and Pierce slaps her roughly with his tail.

"There was a bunch of BRADs. We had to take cover." Kenji explains.

"We lost sight of Kash." Brooklyn says

"That means, he could be in there with Darius."

[Y/N POV]

I cover my mouth shakily as Darius backs away into a table.

"Start talking. Who are you?" Kash snaps.

Darius does some quick thinking. "I'm... The luckiest guy alive."

I jolt back a little, stunned at the response.

"Another human. Finally, I'm saved." He hugs Kash.

If I was Darius, I would've probably added a punch to the face.
But I digress.

Kash pushes him back. "Okay, easy. Just back it up, kid, and answer my questions. Who are you, and how did you get on my island?"

Darius sighs. "My name is Darius Bowman. My boat was destroyed and I washed up here. I... I came from Isla Nublar."

I can tell that Kash is surprised.

[Caleb POV]

Beside me, Ben narrows his eyes.

I nudge him. "What are you planning?"

He holds up a finger and shakes his head. "Wait. Let me calculate."

"What do we do?" Sammy cries. "Big Eatie and Pierce are going to kill each other."

"The drones are forcing them together." Ben notes. "Split up. We need to knock 'em out of the sky so Pierce can get away."

We all nod.

Yaz, Ben, and Sammy go one way, while Kenji, Brooklyn, and I go the other way

[Y/N POV]

Kash crosses his arms. "Nice try. Jurassic World tanked six months ago."

No way... Has it really been that long?

That means... I'm fifteen years old now.

Apparently, Darius had the same thoughts. "No way.
Are...

Kash doesn't budge.

Darius sighs, pretending to be sad. "My dad and I were on vacation when that Indominus thing escaped. We hid in these caves for a while, so we missed the evacuation. After that, we had to fight for our lives every day. My dad, he... He didn't make it."

Darius can twist the truth pretty well when he wants to, it's kind of scary.

"I've been on my own ever since."

"You expect me to believe that?"

"It's the truth. Look man, if you let me call someone, anyone, I'm more than happy to get out of your way and get the heck home."

"No can do. You've seen too much. So you're stuck here. Till I decide what to do with you."
