A bit of suspicion

[Kenji POV]

Toro lunges up in the air and catches the piece of meat Hawkes had thrown. He chomps it in a fashion that indicates I'm controlling him; stiffly.

Hawkes looks at me, and I give the signal for him to throw it. He launches the steak up in the air once again, and I quickly control the joystick and buttons for Toro to catch it until he's flawless.

"Nice move, son." Dad comes up to me, smiling proudly. Mae is by his side.

The female investor, dodges all the Compies that are surrounding her, her feet doing a little 'tango'. "Very good, sir. On our way," she says into her phone.

I make Toro scare the Compies away, and Molina backs away from the Carnotaur in fright. "Those pests are everywhere." She complains.

"Those 'pests' have venom in their bites," Mae tells her bitterly. "so I wouldn't be so quick to-"

A helicopter whirring in the air cuts her off as it zooms into the sky area above the jungle.

"Best not to keep him waiting." Molina says to us smugly, walking off.

I really don't like that girl much.

Dad turns to Mae. "You should go too, Dr. Turner." I'm not sure, but I think his expression is a bit meaningful.

But then again, why would it be? So I just shrug the thought off.

"Right then," Mae says, walking off next.

"So, I've been thinking, son." Dad starts as soon as Mae is out of earshot. "I'd like you to do the demonstration for BioSyn."

"Me?" My eyes twinkle.

"Don't sound so surprised." Dad chuckles lightly. "You've shown me how much you've matured. Just... keep it up."

I hold up the controller as a response and smile.

A man with white hair, a thin pair of grey glasses, and a yellow backpack with a hard expression on his face comes out of the helicopter once it lands.

"I'd like to introduce you to Lewis Dodgson," Molina says, putting her hand out. "head of research at BioSyn."

Dad rushes over and shakes his hand enthusiastically. "Good to meet you. I'm Daniel Kon."

But Dodgson just ignores him and continues to walk forwards to Toro in an awestruck expression.

"Great," he says, half-whispering. "This is great. So?"

I nervously clear my throat and walk forwards, holding the controller in my slightly trembling hands. "Meet... Toro."

The controller beeps as Toro starts to run around in a swift circle. Then he stops inches away from us and gives off a sound roar.

"Incredible." Dodgson breathes, and I internally sigh in relief.

He grabs the controller from me without warning. "May I?"

He makes Toro walk forwards and snarl quietly. "Molina has talked quite highly about your tech, Kon, and let me tell you, that's rare."

"What can I say? I'm not easy to please." Molina smirks.

"Looks like he's been through a lot." Dodgson notes, observing Toro's burnt skin. "No matter. He'll do fine."

"Do fine for what?" Mae hesitantly asks.
