At that moment, Sang Feiwan was squatting by the lake in the flower bed, completely focused on finding that Dragon Orchid. Around him were various plants he had haphazardly dug up. His gaze casually swept across the water, only to suddenly notice a black figure that had appeared behind him at some point, freezing him in place.

In this fantasy world full of demons and monsters, encountering some fox demon or spirit at this late hour wasn't entirely out of the realm of possibility. Sang Feiwan seriously doubted whether the timing of his night exploration was a bit off, did he accidentally meet a ghost?

However, it seemed quite unbelievable when he thought about it. The main city was protected by formations, and with the presence of Baili Duyue, a powerful immortal, ordinary demonic entities shouldn't be able to enter.

"..."

Sang Feiwan stared at the reflection on the lake, and couldn't help but fall into deep thought.

If he turned around, he's afraid he might see something he shouldn't.

If he didn't turn around, he feared he wouldn't even know how he died.

Now, all he had in his hands was a palm-sized fluorite and a hoe for digging. Even catching a mouse was challenging, let alone dealing with ghosts.

Just as Sang Feiwan hesitated on what to do, a sudden chill crept up from behind. Soon after, a flexible body silently pressed against his back, snug and air-tight. A hoarse, deliberately lowered, and somewhat lazy voice sounded in his ear:

"The moon is at the top of the sky, why linger among the flowers and not return to your room and rest..."

Baili Duyue's slender fingertips touched Sang Feiwan's flawless profile, lightly caressing. However, he wasn't admiring the appearance; instead, he appreciated the delicate skin underneath.

Sang Feiwan didn't recognize Baili Duyue's voice but sensed the sudden presence behind him. Frowning, he privately wondered if it was some fox demon confusing his mind. Without changing his expression, he gripped the hand on his face, pondered for a moment, and then chuckled softly, "Beneath the moon, near the willow's top, people meet after dusk, naturally, there's a reason to be infatuated with the flowers."

(TL: So poetic what the hell…)

At the same time, he discreetly moved the hand away from his face.

It was fine to tease others, but not him.

"Oh?"

The person behind noticed Sang Feiwan's evasion and propped his chin on Sang Feiwan's shoulder, curiously asking, "Then, why not tell me the reason?"

A strand of frost-white hair fell silently, like satin.

Sang Feiwan thought these fox demons were probably just here to absorb spiritual energy and likely wouldn't harm him. However, getting away might prove to be difficult. While he contemplated how to respond, he suddenly caught a glimpse of a shiny white strand on his shoulder—Baili Duyue's hair. He couldn't help but pause for a moment.

Baili Duyue?!

How could he be here?!

In that instant, countless thoughts flashed through Sang Feiwan's mind—astonishment, confusion, but eventually, everything returned to calm. Without turning around, he continued to bend down, pretending not to recognize the person behind him. "The city lord enjoys painting. I see these spiritual plants are beautiful, so I thought of digging one up to place in his study. If you're a flower demon or something similar, leave now. I'm just an ordinary person with no spiritual energy to offer."
