Miguel's POV:

"I don't– what do you want me to say for this Miguel? How does a person make the same mistake twice?" Florence, my boss asked me.

I looked down, eyes starting to burn with tears. I'm so stupid. How could I have not checked before submitting this?

"Go on, answer me" he said, leaning back in his chair. I curled my toes, trying to explain to him that it wasn't my fault.

"S-Sir it was Z-Zoey's job to–"

"Yes, it was Zoey's job. I understand that. But isn't it your job to check if the people under you have done their jobs correctly?" he cut me off.

"I'm sorry sir" I mumbled. Florence sighed, pushing the file towards me. I noticed my hands were trembling in anxiety.

"Take it as a warning if you want Miguel. But one more mistake from your side, and your job will be in danger" he said. I nodded, apologizing again and walking out.

Silas stood at the door, waiting for me. Since he is Florence's PA, his cabin is just outside the boss'.

"Mig" he called softly, cupping my cheeks. He raised my head up, locking eyes with me. And I broke.

"I-I didn't do it on p-purpose. It was Z-Zoey's job. I had asked O-Oswin to c-check it and he said it was a-all fine. I don't know h-how this happened. I-I mean, he said it was o-okay. How can t-two people not notice the m-mistake? I don't–"

"Shh, it's okay baby. It's okay. Come, give me a hug" Silas cut off my rambling, pulling me into a hug.

We stayed like that for a while before Silas' phone rang. He picked it up, while I wiped my tears.

"I have to go darling. Florence is calling. But you take care alright? Love you" he pecked my forehead and left for boss' cabin.

I took deep breaths, calming myself down. I hate it when I break down so easily. Only god knows what would happen to me if Silas wasn't there.

------------

Silas' POV:

I zoned out as Florence talked to me. All I could see was a man who made my love cry. Bloody asshole.

Half of this company works because of Miguel. Well, at least the financial department. I can guarantee that you won't find a better candidate for the financial head other than Mig.

And this bastard thinks he'll fire him. Yeah sure, go ahead. Then even I will see how this company works without my love.

"SILAS!" Florence screamed, startling me. A very irritated Florence glared back at me. I looked away.

"Did you listen to a single word I said?" he questioned. I sighed. "Sorry sir. I had something else on my mind" I replied.

"Was that something else Miguel?" he questioned, crossing his arms across his chest. I looked down, not wanting to answer.

"I ought to fire him with all the trouble he's causing me" he said, making my blood boil.

"I apologize for saying this sir, but both of us know how good of an employee he is. Besides, he is just a human. And human beings ought to make mistakes" I said, making my voice slightly stern.

Florence looked at me like he could kill me. But I kept my gaze unmoving. He eventually gave up.

"Just give me a list of all the employees worthy enough for a raise this month. And do not put Miguel's name in it" he said, changing his voice to a deeper one when saying the last sentence.
