Chapter Nineteen

We drove slowly up road, one block away from Shane’s house. We didn’t want people to notice us, but of course, Stella had a bright orange mustang.

“Told you we should’ve taken my black bug.” Jess muttered under her breath.

We each had bought a big pack of toilet paper, that made four huge packs of REVENGE. I pulled my knees up to my chest and took a deep breath. I had to pull myself together. This was payback time. Jess and Stella got out first, but first Stella had to dramatically put on her shades and quietly sing “I wear my sun-glasses at night…” and so on.  When they got out, Luca looked at me, and I stared back.

“Are you sure you wanna do this?” He asked.

“Um…yeah. Yes, I am. He deserves to know who he’s messed with. After this, I am still not done.” I grinned and he beamed back.

“Alrighty then. Let’s go.” Luca said and he took our handcuffed hands and entwined his fingers in mine. I smiled a little to myself and we slipped out of the car. Stella and Jess were waiting. They already had the toilet paper out and had devious smiles plastered on their faces.

“Everyone’s gone. Time to fuck shit up.” Jess whispered and I pressed a hand to my mouth to keep from laughing. We each took a toilet paper roll in hand, and threw it up into the air.

Soon,  the whole house was covered. Stella was having a hay day with it all, she was still running around the trees, T.P.ing them too. She was laughing and singing some song that no one else knew. Jess, Luca, and I sat on the sidewalk and we watched her, amused.

“We have to leave soon, they should be home in a while,” Jess said. “I’ll go get Stella.” She disappeared around the back of the house.

I laid back on the cool grass, glad the heat was gone. I stared up at the stars, marveling at them. I had always been fascinated with stars, mostly because of my dad. I remembered glimpses of him, mostly of us staying up late at night and setting up a telescope and a blanket and watched the stars till mom came and called us in. I missed him but I only remember bits and pieces.

“You like the stars?” Luca asked quietly. I turned to see him watching me and I shrugged.

“I’ve always been kinda obsessed with them. It’s kinda geeky, I know.” I blushed.

“No, it’s not. I think it’s cute.” Luca said.

Cute? Ohmygod ohmygod. I freaked out a little bit on the inside.

            “Thanks.” I smiled.

“No problem.” Luca replied, almost silent.

We stared at the stars together for a while when Luca tugged lightly at the handcuffs.

“Look up there.” He said, pointing. I leaned in a little closer to him and looked to wear he was pointing.

Above his finger, was a constellation.

“Aww. It’s the big dipper.” I said.

Luca and I searched for more constellations when we heard running.

“Guyshurryupthefuzzishere!” Stella gasped and as I was trying to decipher what she said, Luca grabbed my arm and we were inside the car before I could say anything. Then Jess took the drivers seat and sped away, just as lights were starting to glow around the corner and the sound of sirens started to become faint enough to hear.

We drove for a while and Stella dropped Luca and I off at my house.

“Thanks guys for doing this. I feel better.” I smiled.

“Welcome Mia. If you need anything we’re here.” Jess said and Stella nodded.

“Thanks guys. Don’t get pulled over.” I winked and thy laughed, flipped me off, and left.

“Yeap. That’s my friends for y’all.” I said under my breath.

I looked at Luca, who was looking back at me. He blushed and looked down.

            “Um. Mia?” He asked.

            “Yeah?”

“Do you maybe…wanna do something tonight?”

“Depends, what do you mean by something.” I replied.

“I was thinking of going out…I mean not like a date or anything, but just…out.” He said quickly.

            “Uh…sure.” I said.

He smiled and we got into his car and drove off.
