Ricky and Linda were supposed to become a thing during the series.
In the original, Ricky had a crush on Linda (which backfired) and they never touched on those feelings since they dated other people.
However, why did I not allow them to become a couple? It is because as much as I like the idea of a relationship between these characters, I would rather let them stay friends. If Ricky were to have feelings toward Linda, how would she react?
She WON'T make it a big deal and never had any recurring feelings for him.
In creating the series, there are so many possibilities for establishing the couples/friendships that I don't want to lose track of the message I'm trying to portray.
