As Kara heard the news about Barry she nearly passed out. She was worried that Barry died without saying goodbye or her getting to say how much she actually loves him.
"A month?" Clark asked as Grant and Melissa sadly nodded, "Are these your kids?" Clark asked as Kara nodded and sat next to them and hugged them reassuringly
"Yeah, this is Grant and this is Melissa." Kara said smiling but still sad and worried
"Hi Uncle Clark." Melissa waved, normally she would of run and hugged him, but she was too scared to.
"Your dad's going to be okay." Kara whispered as a breach opened up and out came a steak of orange lightning
"Dad!!" Grant yelled running over him to him and seeing him pale and fatigued
"W-where am i?" He questioned hazily
"The Vanishing Point." Sara said as Barry sighed and leaned his head back
"I need to try again." He said trying to stand up
"Dad, you've been gone for a month." Melissa pleaded
"A month, i left five minutes ago?" Barry asked confused
"Take a breather Barry." Bruce suggested
"You had me so worried." Kara whispered hugging Barry tightly, wanting to forget the look the other Earth's Barry gave her. The look of hatred.
"I'm sorry, i'm so sorry." Barry said tearily hugging his wife and children
"It's okay dad." Melissa said smiling still with tears running down her cheeks, "We're just glad that you're alive." She said wiping them away
"And don't worry baby Grant and Melissa are with Caitlin and Felicity." Kara said as Barry sighed in relief
"Are they okay?" He asked
"For two four month old babies they're doing alright." Kara giggled slightly
"I love you Kara." Barry smiled as she smiled back
"I love you too." She said sliding down the wall next to him and leaning her head on his shoulder. Grant and Melissa did the same and rested their heads on eachother. Caitlin and Felicity walked over holding the sleeping baby Grant and Melissa
"Barry?!" Caitlin question nearly dropping Grant
"Woah, Aunt Caity, holding precious cargo." Grant said holding his hand out as she smiled sheepishly
"Sorry." She said handing Grant to Grant
"That's so weird seeing your teenage son holding the baby version of himself." Caitlin said shaking her head slightly
"Guys come over here!!" Oliver called out as they jumped up and jogged over to where Oliver was. They peered over the wall and saw a giant, pulsating red beam shooting into the sky
"What is that and why didn't we see it before?" Sara asked
"It's the Anti-Matter Wave generator." The Moniter said teleporting in
"Where have you been?" Kara questioned and getting no response
"How do we stop it?" Sara asked
"Wait if The Vanishing Point is beyond the multiverse how is it making the wave then?" Cisco asked confused
"Only one way to find out." Oliver said as everyone nodded and left their temporary home to go to the source of the red beam. Once they entered they saw a giant machine that was generating the laser. but one thing caught Barry's eye, which was a man that appeared to be jogging on a treadmill.
"Who's that?" Barry asked pointing to the man as everyone looked over
"There's no one there." J'onn said as Grant and Melissa looked closer
"Can't you see him?" They both questioned earning more weird looks
"The person they're seeing is moving too fast for us to see, but for them he's probably just jogging." Bruce suggested. Barry walked closer and noticed the man's face, it looked like he was on the verge of blacking out.
"Hey!!" Barry yelled as the man turned to face him
"He is the one powering the machine." Felicity said nervously
"No, look." Caitlin said pointing up everyone saw a breach at the top of the laser.
"He's the one making the breach so the wave can can travel to our multiverse." Cisco said
"So if he stops running then we can close the breach." Melissa said smiling
"No, if the breach closes then the wave will destory The Vanishing Point." The Moniter said
"It doesn't look like he can run for much longer." Barry said worriedly
"What if someone runs on the treadmill in the opposite direction?" Cisco suggested, "If we can pull the beam back into the machine it'll destroy itself.." He said snapping his fingers
"But the speed at which they would have to run and the explosion........would kill them." Caitlin said as everyone held their heads down
"I'll do it." Barry spoke up much to everyones shock, "This is how i'm supposed to die in crisis, i die saving all my friends and family." He smiled tearily
"No, no, no, you can't." Kara cried holding his arm, "Please." She begged as Barry brought her into a hug
"I'm sorry Kara, i love you so much, but i have to do this." Barry said trying to put on a brave face. "I escaped death once against Savitar. I can't let this multiverse die because of me." He said pulling away and walking towards the treadmill. Barry phased his hand and pulled the man out of the treadmill. The man instantly passed out from exhaustion and the sky began to turn a crimson red.
"Barry no!!!!" Kara cired as Clark and Bruce held her back, "I need you!!!" She cried further trying to reach for him.
"Kara, you did an amazing job raising Grant and Melissa. Promise me you'll raise them right, you'll raise them with all the love in the world." Barry smiled tearily.
"I promise." She said sadly. As Barry was about to step onto the treadmill he felt a gust of wind and the forcefield was back up again.
"What?" Barry questioned as he saw who was on the treadmill
"Grant, Melissa? What are you doing?" Barry asked scared for the sake of his children
"Dad, we came back to save you no matter what, and even if we die, we're still a live just as babies." Grant smiled tearily
"No, no, no, it's supposed to be me!!" Barry yelled slamming his hands on the forcefield
"We're sorry dad, but we couldn't let you do this." Melissa said tearily, "We love you both, mom raised us as heroes, she raised us to see the light when the world was dark." She said
"Melly, Grant listen to me, i love you both so much, please don't so this." Barry begged as Kara came up next to him
"This is a hero's duty right?" Grant questioned pulling his cowl on as he and Melissa began to run and slowly speed up until they were nothing but blurs to everyone
"Grant, Melissa!!!!!" Barry yelled trying to phase through, but because they were going faster than the other speedster he couldn't
"Grant, Melissa don't!!!" Kara cried with tears streaming down her face.
Everything flashed in both Grant and Melissa's minds, their entire lives played before them. Their mistakes, their flaws, their heroics, their loved ones.
"I'm sorry Chris, i should of told you that i loved you. Mom, Dad, i'm doing this for you." Melissa said in her mind as she began to run faster and faster
"Adrea i love you, this is for you. Mom and Dad you are the best and i hope i can grow up to make you proud." Grant said as he too sped up with his sister
"Listen Grant, Melissa, i know you can hear us, we want you two to know that we're so proud of you, the man and woman you've become and we're lucky to have called you our children and know that where ever you are, we'll always love you." Barry said putting his hand against the forcefield and accepting what is about to happen
"Your father is right, i may not of been the bset mother, but i love you two with all my heart and beyond. I promise we will save this mulitverse, i'm proud of you now and i'm sure future me is just as proud. I love you." Kara whispered putting her hand next to Barry's as Grant and Melissa slwoly reached out their hands and placed their hands on their parents' hands. The beam slowly started to come back down and once it reached the machine it began to beep and shake violently.
"We need to go now." Sara said sadly, "I'm sorry about your kids, but we can't let their sacrifices be in vain." She finished as Barry and Kara reluctantly walked away.
As they left the building they turned back around and saw the machine erupt into an explosion. The loss of their children caused Kara to break down into tears along with Barry as Caitlin brought over baby Grant and Melissa and amongst the pile of smoke fell two emblems, the emblems of XS and Impulse. Grant and Melissa may be alive, but no one ever can deal with the loss of a child.
