Chapter 84: Breakfast

This song represents how Claire has felt ever since she was left on the island alone.

(Picture of Jeremy above ↑)

(I totally did not screenshot it from the video I made because I lost the picture. Speaking of the video I made, I'm working on one for section 3, I'm only including the new characters, though.)

*Claire's POV*

I felt my palms get a little sweaty and I started looking around the kitchen for something to protect myself with if he were to try to attack me. Deep down, I knew he wouldn't hurt me. I don't know why I am trusting him so easily. It's honestly scaring me.

Miles: Claire, calm down. I would never hurt you. There's just something you need to know.

I gave him a skeptical look. How did he just know what I was thinking about?

Miles: Let's just talk about something else, eh?

My instincts responded before I could think.

Claire: Sure.

I realized that he was working on making breakfast before I walked in and I decided I could try to help him.

Claire: Can I help you with breakfast?

Charlie: You don't have to, mate. You could get burnt from the bacon popping. We wouldn't want that, eh?

He excused. I just shook my head and walked further into the kitchen and leaned on the countertop.

Claire: Are the twins always so distant or is it just because of me?

I questioned, forgetting the names of the boy and girl who ignored my existence yesterday.

Miles shrugged.

Miles: Jeremy is a pretty welcoming cobber (friend). He showed me around and got me settled in upon my arrival. Now... Lexi... Her personality is like a dog (an unattractive woman). Just don't tell her I said that. But the twins had a blue (a fight) yesterday and I'm pretty sure that's the reason they were less friendly than usual.

I nodded my head in understanding. I mostly just assumed the meanings of all of the Australian slang he used.

Claire: Makes sense.

Miles: Lexi will probably be nicer to you since you have the same gender.

Claire: Maybe. We'll see.

Miles: Do you believe in guardian angels?

He asked like it was something completely normal to ask. Of course, I believe in them. I just don't have one. I can't say I believe in them because I don't want my new family to think I'm insane.

Claire: I don't know. The idea is absurd, but it's not really realistic in the fact everyone is supposed to have one.

Miles: Why do you say that, mate?

Claire: If everyone has a guardian angel, mine must've died when my parents did. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been stuck on that island for two years.

I shrugged, trying to take a jab at some dark humor.

Miles: Maybe your experience on the island caused you to get one, I mean, you never know.

He shrugged.

I gave him a suspicious look, but he ignored it completely. He actually stiffened up a little before he asked his next question.

Miles: Do you believe in demons?

He had tried to say it casually, but he definitely failed. I also believe in demons, since I encountered them on the island. They were scary, but they typically didn't harm anyone unless they were messed with. Luckily, I only ever observed what happened and I was never on the other end of it. There was even an old lady there who would wave at me and even feed me occasionally and she was a demon.

Claire: I believe in bad people.

I congratulated myself on making passable excuses. The less they know, the better. As far as they know, I'm a perfectly normal teenage girl that just so happened to live on an island for two years.

Miles: Yeah, of course.

He shrugged again, trying to act nonchalant.

Claire: Why are you up so early?

Miles: Couldn't sleep. I assume the same for you.

Claire: Something like that.

I lied. I would have told him what I really thought about him, but that would not be a good decision because if he wasn't who I thought he was, Peyton and Ash may take me back because they would think I'm insane, or, they would also check me into a mental hospital. I got startled a little when I heard a raspy voice behind me.

???: Good morning.

I jumped around to face the new person in the kitchen. It was Jeremy.

Jeremy: Miles, what are doing?

Jeremy spoke cautiously while giving him a look. Miles gave him a questioning look in return. Jeremy glanced at me and gave Miles a hard stare as if giving him a hint. Miles soon had a look of recognition written all over his face.

Miles: Root! I'll be right back.

With that, Miles ran off to his room. I laughed a little.

Claire: Root?

Jeremy: It's Australian for 'fuck'.

Claire: Ohhhh. That makes sense.

I nodded. Jeremy smiled at me.

Jeremy: Sorry I didn't introduce myself yesterday. Lexi and I had a brawl and I was just in a really bad mood for the rest of the day.

I nodded my head in understanding.

Claire: It's fine. I didn't start talking until yesterday, I understand not wanting to meet new people or just speak in general.

Jeremy: Do you mind me asking why you didn't talk much?

Claire: I was having a hard time adjusting to the orphanage. I just didn't really want to put up with anyone else.

I didn't tell the full truth because I know I wouldn't be believed. I didn't tell him I was still scared that everyone there was trying to kill me.

Jeremy: Makes sense. Everyone else should be up soon. I think we're going shopping today.

I gave him a weird look.

Claire: No one told me that.

Jeremy: School starts in two weeks. We're going to go shopping today for clothes and sports stuff, then tomorrow for supplies.

Claire: Do you know where we're going?

Please don't say the mall. Please don't say the mall. Please don't say the mall. I hate the mall.

Jeremy: We're going to the mall.

I internally groaned. I mean, yeah I'm grateful they want to buy stuff for me, but the mall like the most expensive place.

Claire: We're going to be there all day, aren't we?

I asked.

Jeremy laughed a little and nodded.

Jeremy: Yeah, but almost everyone hates it. Only Lexi, Peyton, and possibly Jen like it. Which is almost everyone you're going to be with. You'll only have Selene to keep you sane most of the trip. Well, until after lunch when we switch groups and you and Lexi will be sports shopping with Colby, Will, and Ash.

Claire: Fun.

I said sarcastically in a monotone voice.

Jeremy: Which, I mean, I have a feeling you and Miles will mysteriously disappear into a bathroom for a while.

He joked. I rolled my eyes and got plates out since Miles had finished breakfast.

Jeremy: Everyone should be awake soon.

Claire: Okay.

Jeremy: Claire, do I seem evil to you?

He asked randomly.

Claire: No, why would you ask that? You seem completely normal.

Jeremy: Good. Please just remember that response for what you're going to learn today.

Any ideas as to what Miles is yet?

What about Jeremy?

P.S. If you're homophobic, (first of all, fuck you.) please leave now, some chapters in the near future will contain a gay relationship. Also, if you came to me about Bible shit you think is right and that it's proving being gay is wrong, expect me to come back at you with more proof than you can provide. Don't go there with me asshole.

Also, if you are part of the LGBTQ+ community and someone is making fun of you, my DMs are always open where you can leave their address and social security number. (I'm joking, please do not report me.) I will stick up for you. No one deserves to be treated like that. 🖤

This is my last resort
Suffocation
No breathing
Don't give a fuck if I cut my arm, bleeding"
