Jughead was broken literally heartbroken as Betty broke off their relationship of 4 years. Jughead felt alone as he watched Cheryl and Toni make out by the lockers along with Archie and Veronica. He went home and cried, then hang out at Pop's Diner. He knew there was a meeting with the Serpents later on at night.
At the meeting it was discussed that Jughead needed a partner to be their Princess as Jug is the Prince. All Jug could do is agree and went home. Betty was supposed to be the Princess! He didn't know how long is this pain supposed to last as he felt like The Beast as the enchanted put a spell on him and turned him into a monster.
At this point he has lost all hope. He prayed that someone would rescue him from this lingering pain in his heart. He needed his Belle as he felt trapped.
