Chapter 19
Janice set her plan and she was going to pull through it. Alone. It was currently two weeks after the social, give or take a few days. Within the two weeks Janice had did nothing but get ignored by Jeremy and Jay. She didn’t expect anything of them because she was basically doing the same to them. Car rides were awfully awkward and at work you could feel the tension in the air. Janice felt like she hadn’t spoken to anyone in months when it had only been a few days.
Janice finally understood what loneliness felt like. She suddenly missed home in Heaven and wanted to go back. She wanted to cry to Isabelle and never go back to Earth. She just wanted to talk, to have a conversation with someone. Anyone. Talking to Penny or Sarah didn’t satisfy her enough.
Janice had been trying to concentrate on her mission as well. She made no progress with Jay. There was also the fact that Jeremy had baggage of his own and she is a beautiful, tall red head who is also her teacher. Janice could only hope and pray that Jessica wouldn’t remember her from the diner. Janice just felt so stressed.
She sat in the same diner with her too prolonged cup of hot chocolate with her notepad and pencil. Janice scribbled down notes that she had collected from the beginning.

Woah, there! Getting a little off track! Janice shook her head and erased the last three lines. Her list was now down to eight items and she was blank. This was harder than every other mission and she could only think of a couple reasons. It had to do with the last three lines.
Jay was nice, really, nice. But somehow he had something holding him down in hatred. It was the only reason why Janice was here and she was so confused. Did it have anything to do with the missing Saturdays of the month? What could he have been doing to keep him away for so long? Janice was going to find out.
She had a plan. A super, secret angel plan. It was Friday after school and Sidney let her have the day off for what ever reason. The plan consisted of Janice driving down to wherever Jay lived and staking out there. If he left the house, she would follow him. If he took a walk, she would be close behind. If he was washing his car in the driveway of his house, she would watch and watch and watch. She mused at herself and took a long sip of her hot chocolate. She welcomed the hot liquid that slide down her throat.
“Hey, bud.” Janice ripped the cup away from her mouth and slammed it on top of her notes. She choked on her drink as she looked at Jay. “Man, I didn’t mean to scare you!” He said worriedly and patted her on the back.
“Well, you did.” She rasped out. Jay was looking good today. When was there a day that Jay didn’t look good? He wore an open parka over a green sweater and black jeans. “Is it hot in here?” Janice coughed out.
“You sound horrible. Dang, I didn’t mean to hurt you.” Jay pleaded. Janice waved him off and put her hand to her heart, Jay sat on the stool next to her. He placed his hand against the side of her neck and felt around. Janice felt a blush rush up to her cheeks and her heart leaped. “Your heart is still beating really fast. At least you’re alive, right?” Jay said, oblivious that the reason her heart raced was because he was touching her. Janice could only bring herself to nod.
“What can I get you, sugar?” The older counter waitress asked as she stopped in front of the pair. Jay tore his eyes away from Janice’s and spoke to the waitress without moving his hand. AS Jay gave his order Janice slowly slipped her notebook over and brought her bag to her lap. Jay’s hand slipped from her neck to her arm.
“Are you okay, Jan?” He asked her.
“I’m fine, Jay. Don’t worry about it.” Janice gave him a small smile and he returned it.
“What you got there?” Jay nodded toward the notebook. Janice panicked on the inside. You need to lie. You need to!
“Just some notes for class.” She lied reluctantly. He nodded understandingly. She mentally sighed in relief. “So what are you doing here?"
“I’m on break from Sunny Lane. Didn’t have lunch so I wanted a quick snack.” He said shrugging. “You?”
“I felt like I needed to get out of the house.”
“Where’s Jeremy?” Janice felt pale.
“I don’t know.”
“You don’t know?” Jay asked curiously.
“We’re having a… fight…”
“Oh?” Jay asked with what sound like a combination of surprise and sarcasm. “What happened?” I gave him a look. He held up his hands in defeat. “If you don’t want to tell me that’s fine. I’m just a bit curious.”
“Is that so?” Janice smiled slyly and turned her body to his.
“Yes. I am very curious.” He grinned back and faced her. He leaned his elbow on the counter and placed his cheek and watched her. His bright eyes gleamed over hers.
“And why is that?”
“You’re just a beautiful, smart girl and I’m wondering what someone like you could do to be in a fight?” He sent her a wink. OH. MY. STARS. IS HE FLIRTING WITH ME? Janice squealed in her mind.
“Beautiful and smart?” Janice blushed.
“Maybe even dangerous?” Jay buttered her up.
“Flattery won’t get you anywhere, Jay Trainer.”
“It wouldn’t hurt to try.”
“Here’s your pancakes with a side of bacon and side of ham with two eggs and a side of hash browns.”
“Thank you. And thank you for all day breakfast.” Jay didn’t hesitate to start shoveling food in his mouth. Janice watched with sparkling eyes.
“Quick snack?”
~
Jay kept a healthy conversation and he stuffed food into his mouth. Janice hadn’t stopped giggling, and she didn’t giggle. Once Jay finished his mountain of food and they paid their bills they slid off of their stools. Janice grunted as she lifted her bag up on her shoulder. Jay held the diner door open for Janice. She smiled thankfully and stepped through the doorway. Jay stole Janice’s book bag and hauled it on his shoulder.
“What are you carrying? A dead body?”
“A skeleton.” Jay looked at her, impressed.
“What are you gonna do now?” He asked her. He opened the back door of the borrowed Cadillac and threw her bag in. Janice pulled her jacket closer to her.
“I have nothing to do. Probably going to go read through the script we got in Drama.” Within the two lonesome weeks, the drama club finally decided on doing Little Red Riding Hood for their play in February. It was close to Christmas so the auditions will happen and over the Christmas break Mrs. E will decide who plays who.
“Why don’t you come over to my house? We can read through the script together. Maybe you can play Little Red and I’ll play the Big Bad Wolf.”
“Well, you are just full of yourself today aren’t you?” Janice laughed.
“Sorry, but really, you wanna come over? I have popcorn. Extra butter?” Janice perked up at the sound of her favorite Earth human snack.
“Extra butter?” Jay nodded. Janice looked at him, deciding. But she already knew her answer.
“Lead the way.”
