It was just a few weeks ago that I was sitting in this exact same hospital waiting for the doctors to diagnose my mom's weird heart condition. Now I was sitting here waiting to see if my friends were going to even live or not, and it was truly one of the worst things I've ever had to endure. I just couldn't believe that this was even happening at the moment. A good day at the mall turned into this twisted fight to the death. I honestly don't think I've ever felt this sad before, not even when my mom was on her deathbed, or when my parents forbade me from seeing Nate. This was a different kind of sadness, but I just couldn't put my finger on it. All I knew was that it wasn't good and I wanted nothing more than for it to completely go away.

On the other hand, there were way too many people packed in this waiting room at the moment. You'd think that the waiting room for the intensive care unit would be quite big, but that was not the case here. The number of people in here may have been making it seem smaller than it was, but I didn't care. It still wouldn't hurt to expand a little bit. I mean, they only let family in the rooms of the patients unless the patient requested for a specific someone. This was not the case either. Both Ethan and Jessica were still very much unconscious and I had no clue when they were going to wake up or if they would even wake up in the first place.

This entire situation was just giving me an even bigger headache than my injuries were. After dad retrieved me from the crash site he took me straight to Ratchet as I figured he would do. It turns out that I only managed to come out with some soreness, a few bruises, and some cuts, but my worst injuries were the two gashes on my forehead. They were absolutely horrendous. Ratchet claims that they were caused by at least two pieces of glass because of the deepness and the smoothness of them. I didn't care much for the specifics though. They didn't bother me as much as they should. If anything they were a lot less painful than sitting here in such a dark atmosphere.

I was sitting in the floor, leaning against my dad's legs. Like I said, everyone I knew was here which is part of the reason I'm in the floor. Nate was here, the Autobots were here, Cappy's here, Adalyn and the twins were here, my parents were here of course, some of Jessica's friends from school were here, and even Leo and Mikaela were here. Carly and Sam were here as well, but they were in the room with their son where they should be, just like Jessica's parents were with her. It was crowded, quiet, and rather awkward. Nobody knew what to say or do. We all just sat and waited. It's all that we could do at the moment.

After a few more moments of silence passed the waiting room door opened. We all looked over immediately. A man who looked to be in his mid thirties walked into the room. He wore a white coat and glasses and he also held a clipboard in his hand. I could only assume that he was the doctor, and this is the first time I've seen any doctor in at least three hours. He had news and I was actually kind of scared to find out what it was. Jessica and Ethan were either fine or they weren't. There was no in between.

"Are you all friends of Ethan and Jessica?" the doctor asked the room full of people.

No one in the room uttered a single word though. There were just a few nods to confirm his question.

"Alright. Well, we'll start with Jessica. She's okay," he started, causing her friends to sigh in relief. "She has a few bruises, scratches, a broken leg and a broken collarbone--both of which required surgery to correct--but I can assure you that she's going to be fine."

It made me feel better knowing that Jessica was okay. That meant that Ethan could be okay too. I could only hope so. I honestly didn't know what I would do if I ever lost him. He was my closest friend and one of the greatest people I've ever met in my life. I'd be lost without that idiot.

"Now onto Ethan," he started. "He is in much worse shape given the fact the he was on the sole end of the impact. He has six broken ribs, a broken leg, a broken ankle, and the entirety of his left arm is shattered. His neck is fractured in two different places and he has a grade three concussion. It's a miracle that he's even alive," he said with disbelief.

I bit my lip to keep my emotions at bay. Seconds later, once I was calmed down, I decided to speak up.

"Is he going to be okay?" I asked quietly, causing a few people to look at me.

The doctor sighed and tucked his clipboard under his arm. "I'm not optimistic."

That response did nothing to heighten my mood. If anything my mood was completely gone if it already wasn't. He wasn't even sure that Ethan was going to be okay.

"Is he awake?" I inquired.

"Yes. They both are, Jessica more than Ethan. I'm permitting two extra people per room, but that's all," he answered.

I didn't think twice before getting off the floor and running out of that stupid waiting room. I may have knocked the doctor's clipboard to the floor in the process, but I didn't care. All I cared about was seeing Ethan.

I hurried down the hall to his room which was conveniently beside Jessica's. I wasted no time in stepping through the door. Sam and Carly were in here sitting by his bed, but I looked away from them and looked at Ethan. A gasp escaped my mouth as I took him in. He didn't look like Ethan at all. He was covered in wires, tubes, and other various medical equipment. A very large and very ugly brace was wrapped around his neck; his leg was encased in a large blue cast; the left side of his body was wrapped in what looked like 1,300 pounds of plaster. He looked so broken, so fragile. It literally tore me apart inside to see him like this.

I couldn't control the loud sob that escaped my mouth. Almost immediately Sam got up and walked over to me, engulfing me in a tight hug. I just wrapped my arms around him and cried. I hated this so much.

"He looks so b-broken," I cried.

Sam pulled away from me and held my face in his hands. "Listen, there's something that you need to know, Kay."

"Wha-"

"Dad," a low voice croaked. "Who's that?"

Sam's face dropped, but I paid no mind. I ran over to the side of Ethan's hospital bed and smiled when I saw that his eyes were open. They weren't open all the way, but they were still opened. That was all that mattered to me.

"Ethan, oh my gosh," I cried.

The only thing that moved were his eyes. "Who are you?"

The fact that his eyes wouldn't open all the way was preventing him from seeing who I was. You'd think the boy would know what my voice sounded like, but I guess that brace was not only restricting his neck, but his hearing as well.

"Kay-" Sam started. I cut him off by speaking to Ethan.

"It's Kaelyn," I told him. Carly let out a loud sob, something of which confused me.

"I'm sorry. I don't know anyone by the name Kaelyn," he whispered.

I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. He had to know me; he had to know who I was. I was his best friend, his older sister, his favorite person in the world. He had to know me, he just had to.

"W-what do you m-mean you don't know anyone by the name K-Kaelyn?" I stammered.

He wasn't even given the time to answer before Sam pulled me away. He held me by the shoulders and looked me directly in my eyes. There was nothing but seriousness and a little sadness on his face.

"Listen to me, Kay. He has amnesia; he doesn't remember anything. The doctor said he was surprised he even remembered us," he told me.

I frowned. "What are you talking about? He has to remember me," I insisted. The tears were flowing again.

"I'm so sorry, sweetie. That's just the way it's going to have to be for a while. We were told to let his memory come back on its own, so I'm telling you right now--please do not do anything to try and make him remember you. It's not going to work," he informed me.

I scrunched my face up to keep from crying further, but it just wouldn't work. "But-but, he's my best friend. I can't just live knowing that my best friend doesn't know who I am."

He rubbed my arm comfortingly. "I'm sorry, but for now that's just how it's going to have to be. For right now you need to get home and get to sleep. You've had a rough day as well and I don't like seeing you like this."

"But what about Ethan?" I squeaked.

"I promise to call your mom or dad if anything changes with his condition. I just need you home, safe, and in bed. You can come back and see him tomorrow, I promise," he told me with a small smile.

I sighed and nodded before hugging him tightly. "Thank you. I love you, Uncle Sam."

"I love you too, kid."

I pulled away and ran over to hug Carly. After that I headed back over to Ethan's side. His eyes were now completely shut, indicating that he was sleeping. A single tear fell down my face, but I quickly wiped it away and leaned down to kiss my best friend on the top of the head.

"I love you, E. Hang in there, buddy," I whispered to him before exiting the room.

I was about to head in to see Jessica for a quick second but her room was full, so I decided it would be best not to bother her and her family at the moment. I could always come and see her tomorrow.

The moment I stepped into the waiting room everyone turned to look at me. Having everyone stare at me was nothing short of uncomfortable, but I didn't let it show.

"Can we go home please?" I asked quietly as I looked at my parents.

"Yeah. I was just going to go see Ethan really quick," my mom said as she stood up.

"There's no use," I squeaked.

An immediate look of fear appeared on her face. I knew what she was thinking, so I needed to assure her that was not the case. I heard stress wasn't good for pregnant women, and I knew that she was under enough as it was. She definitely didn't need anymore.

"No, no, no. It's nothing like that. He just doesn't remember anybody except for Carly and Sam," I whispered.

"You're serious?" Nate asked as he walked over to me.

I nodded quickly. "You'll be better off coming back tomorrow. Visiting hours are almost over anyway," I told him.

"Just be glad he's alive and stop your crying," Sideswipe's rude voice sounded. When he got a holoform, I have no clue, but at the moment I was wishing he didn't have one.

"You may not be a human, but at least have a little bit of respect for human feelings you stupid, egotistical little glitch," I growled as I walked towards him.

If there was one Autobot out of the eight of them who made me palm-twitchingly mad, it was him. Right now I just wanted to punch him in his synthetic little face, but I didn't get to before I was grabbed. There was no doubt about it being my dad.

"Another word to her and I'll throw you in a shredder," he growled.

I wasn't even given the chance to say goodbye to the rest of the Autbots before both Nate and I were dragged out of the waiting room by my father. I just couldn't wait to be back here tomorrow to see Ethan.

A/N: I know I'll probably receive a bunch of smart comments about this topic, but I'm here to let you know there's no need for those. As a Sports Medicine student, I'm here to inform you that it is very possible to live with a fractured neck. Also, a girl I know got into a car accident and broke her neck but she still lived. It all depends on where the break is and the complexity of the break. Most of the times the neck breaks that kill are the ones that sever the spinal chord which cuts off the body's connection to the brain entirely, thus killing you instantly. I'm only writing this to inform you. I do my research before writing my stories, and being a Sports Medicine student also helps when it comes to stuff like this. Anyway, thank you for reading. I love you lots.
