"TATTOOS? For how long?"

Chaewon, Jihu, Soomin. All sat in their dinner table. Earlier, in the hospital, while patching up Soomin, Jihu noticed the splotches of ink. It was underneath a cracked layer of foundation.

Soomin knew that topic would come up eventually, she couldn't hide it forever.

"They're not that big." Soomin said. "Is it only one?" Chaewon asked, "Jihu, did you know this?"

"Yes." Jihu lied, Chaewon sighed, "And you didn't think to tell me, at all?" "It took you long enough to notice them! Tattoos were always your dream too." Jihu retorted.

"I mean, yeah...but please tell me when you're gonna do something. It's like we're so distant, Soomin. You're my only daughter, the one I can spoil. Let me be close to you." Chaewon explained.

"You never really talk to me either." Soomin replied.

"You're right. But I'll try to from now on. All I want to do is catch up with you, explain this whole karate fiasco and why you're out of the house a lot and have lots of friends. A year ago you just had Demetri and Eli." Chaewon said.

"Soomin, where is that Eli kid? You still friends with him?" Jihu asked, "You guys are in for a long story." Soomin stated, "How much time do you have?"

"You have one more day of suspension. You go to school Monday sharp. I say we have a lot." Chaewon answered, Jihu nodded.

"Well, it starts off with two karate dojos and two boys: Cobra Kai, Johnny Lawrence and Miyagi-Do, Daniel LaRusso." Soomin started off.

"Johnny Lawrence? The one who lives here? And the car dealership guy?" Chaewon questioned, "Who's the good one?" Jihu asked, taking bites of his food. The two adults treated the story as gossip, and gossip could never get boring, no matter age.

"No one is good really, I mean I'm only here because my friends are here, and karate is kinda fun. But it depends. Listen to the whole feud though, it started last year, early October." Soomin replied.

For about an hour, Soomin explained the side she knew. Most of the time was Chaewon and Jihu asking questions midway of her talking. She of course left out the part where she and Hawk dated, she would never tell her parents about that first relationship, and never plans to—for now.

"I feel bad for that Robby boy. Johnny's a sucky dad." Jihu comments, "He should've be there for his own son! Miguel already has a parental figure, he's [Johnny] messed up." Chaewon nods.

"So everyone involved in the school fight is suspended until Friday?" Chaewon asked, "Including those two stupid boys who tried to fight you?" "Yeah, I hope those boys learn to leave me alone now." Soomin answered, "They will. No one messes with my daughter and gets off the hook."

"So who's gonna win the war?" Jihu asked, "We don't know. And I don't think it can be won." Soomin said. "Does Sehun know?" Chaewon then spoke.

Sehun. Soomin almost forgot that name the whole summer. "No, we haven't talked in awhile." Soomin said. "I'd figure why, he seems to be busy with his friends from work more." Chaewon nods. "And I heard he's going to plan and apply for Oxford." Sehun adds.

"Oxford? Isn't the tuition fee so expensive?" Soomin asked. "Well your cousin is very hardworking. And his parents have a way with money. I think he'll make it." Jihu said. "Yeah, Sehun's parents are filthy rich." Soomin agreed.

"You should talk with him more soon. Once you know it he'll be studying abroad, again. And you two will be separated for even more years." Chaewon suggests.

"I'll find time soon. Especially because you two don't want me doing karate anymore." Soomin remarks a huge scolding the day she got out of the hospital.

"No, we told you to not get into anymore fights. Didn't your LaRusso teacher say karate is only for defense?" Chaewon said, "And you won in a fight, defense worked well on you." Jihu adds.

"So I can still go to Miyagi-Do?" Soomin questioned. "Well, karate yes. Miyagi-Do shut down because of that Robby thing sales are dropping at that dealership." Jihu explained.

"It is!?" Soomin gasped. "Yup. You can go somewhere else if you do find one...but I don't think you will find another one. Your other choice is Cobra Kai." Chaewon adds.

"So I do have time to talk to Sehun. I probably won't do karate ever until Miyagi-Do reopens." Soomin groaned. "Go find a new hobby! Crocheting, knitting, those paper crafts." Jihu said.

"You have a lot of time before karate is back." Chaewon reminds. "Maybe I will. But I don't know. This table hasn't been so noisy since forever." Soomin laughed.

"We are barely talkative at this table anymore." Jihu nods, "Well, I think we're all finished with dinner. And my voice is tired. Everyone go to sleep while I go watch tv." Chaewon declared.

Now Soomin was back at school, the only one out of the karate fight to get back a week earlier. She felt weird being there, and for once it wasn't because none of her friends were with her.

Wait. Moon was there! She didn't intervene in any physical fighting so she has to be there. Unless...Yasmine. Soomin hasn't seen her much since the front wedgie incident. And she wasn't sure if she wanted to see her. Probably not.

Soomin checked her phone to see if she had Moon's number saved, which she didn't, and went inside the building. She was met with security guards and white tables.

"Please let us search your backpack in case of weapons." The man said in front of her. Soomin was skeptic, "The fight, right?" She guessed.

"Yup, we have to make sure you or your peers have any stuff to initiate one as bad again." The guy replied. "Didn't one girl have a spiky bracelet that gave another one scars? So that's the prime example?" Soomin questioned.

The guy sighed, "Unfortunately yes. And you're also the girl who gave those two boys a lifetime beating. Now let me check your bag." Soomin hated being checked.

She watched as the man checked the pockets she never knew existed on her backpack, then looked too closely into her sanitary pouch.

"How do you know I did that?" Soomin questioned, "What's with you and questions?" The security guard asked. "You always answer them." Soomin replied. But this time he didn't answer it. "You're good to go."

"Okay, cool, thanks," Soomin grabbed her bag and left, wanting to find Moon and survive the week.

The easy thing was that Moon was already there, and it seemed like she was more of waiting for Soomin!

"Soomin!" Moon went up to her, giving her an immediate hug. "Oh hey Moony! You okay?" Soomin asked, giving the hug back.

"Yes I've been fine, I just miss you guys so much. I'm glad that you only have a week off." Moon explained, "I'm glad to have you too this week! I was actually looking for you. Is Yasmine here with you too?" Soomin asked.

"No, she'll be here next week. You're okay staying with me for this week, right?" Moon questioned, "Yup, I mean, who else would I be with?" Soomin replied.

"You and the others' videos of the fight made you popular." Moon explained, "Popular?" Soomin gagged, "That's...frightening. So the whole school would know my name and face?"

"Yup," Moon grinned, "You'll be fine, most people forget about school gossip in a week minimum before there's another one."

"Hopefully the next gossip isn't about karate." Soomin jokes, "Oh it definitely won't! There's some news that some teachers could be hooking up." Moon adds.

"What? Who?" Soomin gasped. She wouldn't pass off gossip, it made school more amusing.

Luckily, the majority of the day shared periods with Moon. Moon shared half of her period with Soomin so they basically stuck together like glue.

It was during lunch that Soomin had thought of the most coming back to school.

"Would Miguel be able to wake up soon?" Soomin suddenly asked, "I mean, I think he will. He probably could. Didn't you guys used to be in Cobra Kai together?" Moon asked.

"Yeah, we did. When it first opened up I was the second student." Soomin was fond of the memories. "You should visit him, when was the last time you two even had a conversation?" Moon asked.

"I don't even know." Soomin replied, "That's exactly why you should visit him after school." Moon said. "I can't, the ICU is supposed to be family only." Soomin sighed.

"Your dad works there, right?" Moon asked, to which Soomin nodded. "You can convince him to bring you! Easy! Bring him gifts if you do visit him." Moon advised.

"That's gonna be like Sam. That feels weird and they might think we're dating, don't you think?" Soomin questioned.

"Well, from experience, the person who's in the coma can vividly hear you. They can hear your voice, your message, and it might motivate them enough to wake up." Moon spoke.

"Did you have some relative who was like Miguel?" Soomin asked, "My cousin, right after I spoke with her she woke up a day later. It's just my theory though, but I feel like it is true."

"Well, I trust you enough. I'll visit. It's been a while since I've ever interacted with Miguel anyway. It should be nice." Soomin decided. "Yay! I have a few gift ideas if you need it!" Moon offered.

"It's okay, I have an idea of a gift already, it shouldn't be too hard." Soomin said.

Soomin was standing near the front desk. Her gifts were quite odd to a person's eye but she held sentimental feelings towards them.

She was wondering where her dad was, and was regretting not texting him beforehand about her visit. She thought she looked foolish standing there alone. Until she heard a feminine voice.

"Sooya? Is that you, dear?" Soomin turned to see an older woman with curly hair placed into a ponytail. Carmen Diaz, Miguel's mom.

"Oh! Hi..Mrs. Diaz. I was here to give Miggy some gifts." Soomin nervously smiled, "Though I don't think i can be visiting, only family and nurses right?"

"Don't worry about that policy, you are almost family to me too. I can find a way for us to get you in." Carmen smiled, going forward at the teen.

"Are you doing well too? You're not hurt badly, yes? I heard you got involved too." Carmen asked. "I've been better than a week ago, my dad patched me up pretty well." Soomin answered.

Carmen was a lovely woman, loving and caring. Soomin often missed staying over for dinner at Miguel's house, she missed the feeling of Carmen.

"That's good, i wish it was the same for Miguelito." Carmen sadly comments, "How would I be able to go in his visiting room? What's your way?" Soomin asked.

"Just follow what I do, play along. Ms. Diaz's got this." Carmen assured, and walked towards the front desk of the building.

"Hello, Ms Diaz! Are you here to visit again?" The woman asked, "Yes, yes I am. Can I bring another guest with me?" Carmen asked.

"Is it immediate family?" The woman asked, "I suppose so. It is his girlfriend who wants to visit." Carmen lied, Soomin turned red.

"Is my cariño doing okay? I'd like to give him gifts." Soomin almost gagged saying the nickname. She hoped Miguel would wake up if she had to lie being his girlfriend.

"I'm sorry, at first we can't be able to let other visitors in at this moment. When he wakes up is a more better time." The woman suggested.

"Ma'am I work here. Carmen Diaz. I should be able to let my son's girlfriend in the visiting room too. He dearly loves her, and that is always his first priority." Carmen explained.

"What if that was your beloved one, would you want to be left out?" Soomin asked.

"Well, I don't have any beloved. I wouldn't have a clue." The woman shrugged. "That's a shame. Would you like me to show you my ID? I have to let my son's vida be able to see him, what if it's his last day?" Carmen persuaded.

"I suppose, fine. ID?" The woman rolled her eyes. Carmen smiled and showed her card from her wallet. "You're free to go. You know the room, right?" The woman asked.

"Yes I do. Have a good day." Carmen replied, motioning for Soomin to follow her. "Good day, thank you for letting me visit mi vida!" Soomin lied once again.

To make it better Soomin had to think of Hawk, which is weird...but reasonable for her.

"I'm sorry for making you go through that. It did work though." Carmen said, "I guess it does, that easy?" Soomin replied.

"I told you I have my ways." Carmen smiled, "I didn't know you knew those Spanish words. Do you use those words on Hawk?" Carmen asked.

"Hawk? We're not dating." Soomin's eyebrows furrowed. "And no, I read a lot of literature." She adds.

"It's just that, Miguel tells me all the time about you and Hawk. Mostly the boy, he likes to say that Hawk misses you. Miggy misses you too, he hoped you guys can be friends again. This is a good start." Carmen clarified.

"Yeah, it's been a while since we've talked. And a while since I've visited over for dinner." Soomin nods. "Well, Miguel misses you very much." Carmen finishes.

"I'll be nearby the room, outside. I want to give you privacy in whatever you want to tell him, because I know I would like privacy." Carmen instructed.

"Is that allowed? Are you sure?" Soomin asked, "I know you're not gonna be like Isabelle Fuhrman in the Orphan, dear." Carmen joked.

Soomin laughed, "Well it is nice that I have your trust. Thank you. I'll go inside now, I'll be done quickly, I think."

3...2...1. Soomin walked inside with the plushie and card in her right arm.

The sight was eerie. Well, it was literally Miguel Diaz in a hospital bed, tons of constraints and gear on him with a few monitors nearby as life support.

So how did Miguel supposedly hear her? What was Moon's experience with relatives in comas? What did people in a coma see?

Oh right, Soomin was supposed to talk to him.

"Oh my god I'm so awkward..." Soomin muttered to herself trying to start some noise. "Okay..."

"Hi...Miggy, Mickey Mouse, Miguel, whatever. Obviously you're in pretty deep shit and obviously I'm not. I gave you some gifts..I spent money on..so you better wake up to see them or else I basically wasted a good $20 on you. I don't know what to say, really, it's been a long time since we've had a conversation. And this time you can't even reply so I'm basically just talking to myself." Soomin rambled, and she knew it was only gonna get even more rambling as she was letting out her inner chatterbox.

"Okay...so my summer I was in Miyagi-Do, you should know by now. I made friends with some of the people there, you're probably not best in terms with. So I probably shouldn't mention them for the best. But there's this little guy Nate who's cool, you shouldn't have beef with a freshman so I think I can mention him. Summer's been weird. Life's been weird. I'm weird talking to like the wall here. Which no offense, I know you're worth more than a wall." By then Soomin had set down the Mickey Mouse and card near a table and sat down.

"Carmen—Ms Diaz—told me you seem to be nosy in me and Hawk. We're on good terms, fortunately. It's gonna be weird ranting to a boy about boy problems but all summer I was doing my best not to think about him to the point I was just thinking about him. We're on good terms because at Moon's party he drove me home, and it was just us and no karate, like the better times. For me, at least, you seemed way happier since karate. I've been the opposite. Well, now, we're both probably having the same opinions on karate—it ruined our lives." Soomin sighed.

"I'm sorry for rambling so much, Moon gave me a story that when someone's in a coma they can still vividly hear you. It can give them motivation to get better asap. I wanted to put that to the test and just talk to someone too. Demetri, he pulled a shitty stunt at the party. All my other friends are pretty affected by the fight last week—obviously you got affected the worst so... basically I have no one to talk to. So now here I am, talking to you. Ms. Diaz had to lie for me to get me in here. I had to be your girlfriend, that's so weird I don't know why I'm saying that, god." Soomin chuckled.

"Basically, I want you to get better soon. Everyone does. I gave you a famous mouse plushie and a matching card. The card says stuff that I couldn't say out loud because I either forgot to say it from rambling too much or because I probably really am a Miyagi-Do pussy and can't bring it to say out loud." Soomin pointed to the cards.

"Your mom's outside waiting for me to finish my rambles. Now I'm finished, and now I have calculus homework to finish and a history project. I have to go, but I'll definitely do my best to see you again, Migs. Bye, love ya—as a friend—of course." Soomin stuttered, rushing to get out the door. She's never felt so vulnerable ranting to Miguel like that, but it was therapeutic, relaxing almost to let out everything she's been thinking of.

"Ms. Diaz? I'm done. You can go stay with him inside there, but I have to go. Homework." Soomin walked out the room, seeing Carmen right behind it. Almost as if she was watching the whole time.

"You can stay if you want. Do you have all your homework in that bag of yours?" Carmen pointed at her backpack. "Yeah, but I don't wanna intrude on your personal matters. I should go, if you want me to." Soomin said.

"Stay! Stay! I'll text your dad about it." Carmen offered. "Well, it can't be bad. I'll stay then. What time do you plan to go home?" Soomin asked. "6:30. It's about 4 'o clock right now shouldn't be too long." Carmen replied. "Is there a charging outlet?" Soomin questioned, "Just come inside." Carmen chuckled and opened the door again, Soomin internally sighed before going back in the room.

The rest of the day was Carmen and Soomin chatting along. Soomin didn't know if Moon was ever right about her theory, but time would tell.
