Smaug was not happy to find out that someone was trying to reclaim Erebor. He was angry when he saw Thorin before he registered me.

"Now you're going to burn!" The dragon spoke, and fire began to spew from its mouth.

We ran down the stairs that led to a corridor where the great reptile couldn't get in. We ran on until we reached a path where we were very unprotected. Thorin stopped and motioned for everyone to be quiet.

"We spanked that one," Dori said quietly.

"No. He's too cunning for that," Dwalin echoed.

"So where to now?" Bilbo wondered.

"To the west guardhouse," Thorin whispered, "there may be an exit."

"Too high. We have no chance there," echoed Balin.

"It's the only place we have it. We must try."

We were walking in silence when a coin dropped halfway. It looked like it fell off Bilbo, but it actually fell off Smaug's body, which was directly above us. Since he was sleeping buried in gold, the coins got caught in his scales. As he was huge, many coins fell.

We walked quietly and managed to reenter the protected areas undetected before making a dash for the western guardhouse, where, unfortunately, there was no exit. The exit was flooded and dead bodies lay everywhere.

"This is the end," Dwalin spoke up, "there is no exit."

"They were the last of our people," began Balin, "They came here and hoped, but in vain. We can try to get to the Dale, maybe we can hold out for a few days."

"No, I don't want to die like this. Crouching, gasping for breath. We have to get to the furnaces," Thorin spoke up.

"He'll see us," Dwalin replied, "damn right it is."

"Not if we split up," Thorin spoke.

"Thorin," Balin interjected, "this is not going to work."

"You are the sons of Durin," I spoke up, "Are you running away? You've come this far, are you going to give up now?"

"No!" spoke the dwarves.

"I can use magic to protect you from the fire," she continued, "you will worry less. So, Thorin, what's the plan?"

"We'll lead him to the furnaces. Kill the dragon or die. If it is to end in fire, let us all burn in it."

The spell had to be done individually, they stood in a line and I said the incantation each time.

"How do we know it works?" Dwalin echoed.

I conjured fire in my hands, which I brought closer to Bombur, who was not yet under the spell. He could feel the heat and warmth, and when he touched it briefly, the flame burned. I then touched Dwalin, who felt the heat, but it did not burn him. I let the dwarf's burn disappear.

"So, what's next?" I asked when everyone was already protected by my spell.

"Let's split up," Thorin began, dividing us into groups.

Me, Bilbo, Balin and he were in one group.

We set off and Oakenshield shouted out loud on purpose which way to go.

"Go, go, save your life..." Smaug said before he noticed us.

We stopped for a moment.

"... You have nowhere to hide," the dragon continued, at which point another group took his ears, allowing us to run on.

I had no idea where the dwarves were taking us. We ran down a corridor where we were unprotected before Balin headed into one of the hallways.

"This way, this way, come on," Balin yelled and ran inside.

"Thorin," Bilbo yelled, "Eruwen."

We both ran across the corridor, so we were planning to go back, but that's when Smaug saw us.

"After Balin," Thorin spoke towards Bilbo.

Smaug let off a fire at us. The spell protected us, and since I didn't need the dragon to find out right away, I created a dwarf double to run away from the fire. The unfortunate consequence of my illusion was that the other dwarves fell for it too.

They had to see the real Thorin before they went to the furnaces.

"This plan won't work," Dwalin spoke up when we reached our destination, "those furnaces are stone cold."

"He's right," Balin agreed, "we have no fire to light them with."

"No fire?" Oakenshield spoke up, "You were easy to pick on after all," he teased the dragon, "You're slow and fat, you senile reptile."

His words annoyed Smaug enough that he prepared to throw fire.

"Take cover!"

Smaug's fire set the furnaces ablaze.

"Bombur," Thorin began issuing orders, "go lower those bellows, go. Bilbo, up, on the signal you pull. Balin, will you stir the crackling fire?"

"Sure. It'll take a while."

After a while, Smaug made his way through the bars, which had given the dwarves little time in the meantime, to the furnaces. We scattered, so he started looking for us.

We came into his field of vision.

"You're not looking for this, are you?" I spoke towards the dragon, showing him the dagger from his tooth. Smaug opened his mouth and ran his tongue over the spot where one tooth was missing.

His belly began to glow, indicating that he was planning to spew fire.

"NOW!!!" roared Thorin.

After a moment, water began to flow on Smaug, and in a very strong stream. It cooled his body thoroughly, so he couldn't use his fire for a while. The stream of water set in motion the mechanism of the gemstone carts that were high above Smaug's head.

He was coming closer, and there was no stopping the crackling fire the dwarves began to throw at him. Gloin cut one belt of carts and they had already restrained the dragon.

Thorin then pulled the chain that lifted the stopper, and liquid gold began to flow from the furnaces.

The dragon became entangled in the web of carts and managed to knock down the other web, which contained Bifur and Gloin.

"Distract him to the Royal Gallery," said Thorin, who ran for the wheelbarrow, which he took off to I don't know where.

I followed Dwalin and Nori, for I had no idea which way to run.

"You think you can fool me, barrel-rider?" I overheard Smaug say, "You came from Lake Town. What a nasty pickle those ugly dwarves and that shipwreck on the lake are. Those sniveling cowards with their longbows and black arrows. Maybe it's time I paid them a visit."

"It's not their fault," Bilbo shouted, "wait, you can't go to the lake town."

"You care about them, don't you? Well, watch them perish."

He was about to start off, but Thorin interrupted him.

"Here," he yelled so he could hear him, "you dull worm."

The other dwarves and I held tight to the chains that held together the form of the statue where the gold flowed.

I couldn't see Smaug, but his voice was louder, so he was coming toward us.

"You!" He spoke.

"I'm taking back what you stole," Thorin responded.

"You take nothing from me, dwarf. I have destroyed your ancient warriors," he said, "I have struck fear into the hearts of men. I am the king under the Mountain."

"This is not your kingdom. It belongs to the dwarves, and the gold belongs to them," Oakenshield replied, "We have come for vengeance...," he continued with the dwarven curse he had used on Thranduil, whereupon we pulled the chains.

Pieces of stone fell to the ground, revealing a beautiful golden statue of the Dwarf King. It was beautiful and tall, and Smaug had to stretch his neck to match the king. As he approached the statue's face, the gold poured over him as it was still warm.

The gold spilled all over the hall and the dragon disappeared into it.

Thorin smiled at his success, but then he grew serious, the dragon emerging from the gold and heading out.

"Vengeance, vengeance, I will show you vengeance!" Smaug shouted, running towards the main gate of the dwarven kingdom.
