Requested by the lovely _koujiro_ Thank you for requesting!
OC's name : Otohiko Rentarou.
Invented Team : Emerald Sparkle
. . . 🌼 . . .
Being part of Teikoku Gakuen, Genda had the opportunity to meet several people throughout his stay in the academy. Yet, none of them was as mesmerising as the girl from the Emerald Sparkle.
Kageyama, the man responsable for the academy's team, requested a friendly match between Teikoku Gakuen and Emerald Sparkle. Everyone in the team knew that the reason behind his choice wasn't only to enhance the team's work, but also to test his 'materpiece's aquired, advanced abilities.
Genda didn't care the slightest about Kageyama's intentions. If anything, he only wanted to test his own abilities and progress.
However, what he didn't expect was to come face to face with the best player in the opponent's team in a fierce competition. He did not know her name, but she had already established a name for herself through her hisatsu that broke mercilessly through his defences.
"She is the emerald that sparkles the team. She is Emerald Sparkle." He heard one of her teammates speak of her.
Genda couldn't see her face due to the smiley mask she had put on. Despite the curiousity that grew inside him to know her reasons behind putting such mysterious looking mask, he had to keep his head around the battle unfolding in front of him.
On the other hand, Otohiko was confident in her abilities to break through any defence a goalkeeper might have. She even grew bored and tired of waiting for a goalkeeper to match her power. However, she didn't foresee the fierce technique that Teikoku Gakuen's goalkeeper had up his sleeve.
As much as it had frustrated her, it incited a strong sense of competition inside her; one she was sure was mutual. A fire that had long been extinguished due to her overpowered techniques. The competition lit up the match and drove each member of the two teams to give their best.
Even the coaches were astonished by how quickly the match escalated from a friendly match, to one that resembled the finals of a very long, fought for tournament.
The match eventually ended in a draw. Even though disappointment crippled in Otohiko's mind at their inability to win, she was more than satisfied with the challenge Genda had imposed.
During their official exchange of gratitude now that the match was over, Genda had finally had the chance to inspect the Emerald closer- that was his nickname for her before he knew her name.
Besides her extraordinary techniques, Genda couldn't help but feel marvelled by her beauty; her tan skin that glowed gracefully under the sun; her black hair that reached her hips, and flew under the wind's commands; her authoritative posture as she stood her proudly ground in front of him.
The tips of his ears burnt and a pound in his heart reached his ear when he felt her eyes return his gaze. Despite the mask that concealed her features, Otohiko found herself fascinated by Genda's sharp features.
Later that evening, after everyone had retired to their respective resting places, Genda found himself venturing to the nearby forest where he found his peace of mind.
Within the forest was a river that flowed through. Its beauty had never ceased to amaze Genda; yet, what made it sparkle even more was the girl who sat by the river with her feet hidden beneath the water.
'She is truly an Emerald that sparkles everything around her.' The thought crossed Genda's mind spontaneously. Approaching a few steps closer to her spot, he faked a cough and called her, "Emerald."
The girl's head turned sharply towards his direction. Genda noticed that she still had her mask, but he disregarded it for the time being as he stood next to her.
"King." She called back in reference to his title as the 'king of keepers' and his majestical beast technique. He smiled to himself at the nickname and settled down next to her. He let a few beats of silence pass before he spoke again.
"What are you doing here?" Genda asked.
"Looking for peace." Her muffled voice answered.
"Well, I hope I didn't disturb your peace, then." Genda meant it as a joke, but her answer flattered his heart.
"I don't mind you being here." She simply stated. In return, Genda stared at her intensely. He knew that her search 'peace' was not her only reason, if not her reason at all.
Otohiko, on the other hand, was nervous under the intense gaze that the guy beside her was pointing her under. Had it not been for mask, the bright blush on her cheeks would've been as clear as day.
"I came here for another reason." She finally admitted once she had realised that her cover had been blown. Genda's eyebrows lifted upwards and the corner of his lips stretched into a smirk.
The look made Otohiko roll her eyes at him; yet, a smile still found its way into her face. Taking the silence as a cue to continue, Otohiko turned her head to stare back at the water.
"I came to say thank you for today. I have never had so much fun as I have with you." Her quiet voice was barely audible, yet Genda heard every syllabus intelligibly.
For a split second, Genda's eyes softened at her admittance. His eyes also turned to stare at the stable water before he answered, "I can say the same about you."
The girl looked at him; and for a brief moment, they locked eyes even though Genda was unaware of her facial expressions. The thought echoed too loudly in his mind that he didn't realize when he had uttered it to the outside world in a form of a question, "Why are you wearing a mask?"
It was not that Otohiko had never received the same exact question before, but something about Genda made her shift in her seat and glance away from him.
"People used to recognize me whenever I went, and I wanted to keep my life as private as possible. So, the idea of a mask to conceal my identity didn't seem like a bad one." There was nothing particularly special about her reasoning, yet Otohiko couldn't help but feel slightly embarrassed.
"It's alright if you do not wish to reveal your identity to me." Despite the unmistakable tone of understanding in Genda's voice, Otohiko didn't miss the disappointment that tried to force its way into his voice.
As the conversation ended and silence engulfed the atmosphere between the two, Otohiko submerged in the ocean of her mind in an attempt to fish out any reasons why she should or should not reveal her face to Genda.
'Admit it. You want him to know.' Her mind screamed at her, and her heart agreed with it. Sighing in defeat, Otohiko touched the edge of her mask and ran her finger through it.
The action caught Genda's attention who turned to look at her with raised eyebrows.
"Maybe... I can make an exception for you." She stated, and she didn't fail to miss how Genda's eyes widened a fraction. Unzipping the strings, the mask fell into her hands and unrevealed the face beneath.
Genda breathed in every detail in her features. Yet, as much as he desired to dwell in every aspect available a time, he found himself attracted to her eyes. Her golden eyes cast a spell that rendered his mind captive. The rich orbs stared back at him; their gaze would've stayed intact had it not been for the blush that rushed into Otohiko's face as she averted her eyes to the side.
And it was at that moment when Genda realized what love at first sight felt like.
