Chapter 15

Miranda's POV

After I told him about what happened at the battle, he patted my shoulder and hugged me, rather awkwardly. "You can't blame yourself for something like that."

"Oh, I can. It is quite easy," I retorted bitterly.

"Alright. Then think about it this way," he began. "Who did you save?"

"His nephews," I mumbled, wiping my eyes.

"Then every time you think about how you let him die, or that it was your fault, think about the people that you saved," the guard advised.

I nodded, "I'll try."

We stayed that way, silent, until he spoke again, "Can I ask you another question?"

"You just did," I said. He glared at me. "Alright, go for it."

"Did you love him?" He asked.

I shook my head and then nodded. Eventually my head wound up in my hands again. "I don't know."

"Why don't you know?" He asked.

"Can you love two people at once?" I asked. "How do you know it's love? Or which one you love more? Do I just feel guilty that I didn't tell him I loved him when he was passing?"

"Princess," He began.

"Luna," I corrected him automatically, cutting him off. When he gave me a weird look I said, "I'm a person first."

"Technically, you're an elf," he stated.

I shot him a half-hearted glare. "Thank you for that astute observation mister guard."

"Nrimir," he corrected. I looked at him. "My name is Nrimir."

I nodded, accepting this as an introduction, "Eithel govannen."

He returned the phrase before continuing what he was saying earlier, "Luna, you can love two people at once. So, who's the other person?"

I blushed and looked away, "Um, he's someone."

"My, how vague," he said in a flat tone. "Does this person have any characteristics? Or maybe even a name?"

I blushed harder. "He's um, kind of rebellious, and good at fighting."

"Alright, good start keep going," he encouraged.

"He's kind and he smells nice," I said and then immediately regretted it as the guard burst out laughing. I frowned and turned away.

"Alright, alright, I'm sorry. I guess you just caught me off guard," Nrimir said. "What else?"

My face fell, "He's the kind of guy that already likes someone else." Nrimir inhaled sharply. "But she loves someone else."

"Does he love her?" He asked.

"Yes," I told him.

He ran a hand through his shaggy brown hair and exhaled deeply. "What's his name?"

"Legolas," I replied.
