I stood on a grassy clifftop, where a gentle breeze stroked my windblown hair. Brushing my fingers over the metal of my fans sticking out from the holsters, I let out a breathy sigh. After watching the beautiful sunrise as it made the ocean shimmer shades of orange and blue, I turned to view the island that was soaked in the sun's warm glow.

In the far end stood tall mountains, a couple with snowy white tips. Lush green hills bathed in the warm sunlight and scattered upon them were trees, a mix between orange and green. The Trail of Tears twisted and twirled around the hills like a ribbon. Dragons flew against the sky's horizon - flapping, swooping, and gliding in unison.

I glanced down at my arms and traced my fingers across my scars earned in an attempt to take my own life. Shivering, the memories poured in, and I sighed loudly, in a haze of regret and despair.

"Are you feeling any better?"

I jumped at the sudden interruption and whipped my head around to face the source of the voice, only to see Axel standing behind me, her silver hair braided beautifully and her brown eyes shining with hope. As I nodded, Axel stood next to me, looking at the view before speaking again.

"Those scars will never diminish your worth," Axel said, shifting her gaze down to my arms briefly.

"Whatever, it's in the past now," I said dismissively, clenching my jaw.

"The past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it."

I hummed in agreement and turned my head to look at her, flashing a lopsided grin. A shimmering white Antipodean Opaleye spotted us from a distance and began leaping its way toward me, panting from exhaustion but purring loudly as he halted in front of me. I extended my hand, but the Opaleye simply curled his sleek figure around my legs, and I sighed and sat down, leaning back into the dragon's body. Axel sat beside me and placed a hand on the Opaleye's snout, earning a soft grunt from the creature.

"Do you believe in what All-Mother foretold centuries ago for this realm?" I asked.

"Of course," Axel responded. "The seven sparks of the guardian... you don't think?"

"I do." Axel gasped and leaned forward, forcing intense eye contact.

"What will you do?"

"I don't know. I need to see it for myself, and make sure I'm not just seeing fake hope."

Axel sighed and leaned back, staring up at the clear sky, resting her cheek on her shoulder.

"What is meant to be will always find its way."

"Hey girls, mind if I join you?" Another voice from behind us said, and the both of us turned around to see Fawn standing and waiting patiently.

"Come sit."

Fawn smiled and sat in between the two of us, accidentally hitting her hand against the Opaleye's head, eliciting a grumble of annoyance from him. Laughing awkwardly, she pulled out a handful of Dragon Nip from her pocket, earning the dragon's trust again in a heartbeat as he gobbled it up without hesitation.
