Everly

Kelly threw his arm around my shoulder as we walked up the driveway to the firehouse together. It had been a week since the accident and I was ready to get back to work.

"Ready?"

"More than you'll ever know."

He looked down at me and leaned down and kissed the side of my head as he pulled open the door and we walked inside the firehouse.

"Oh hey!"

Everybody that was around quickly got up and started clapping as Shay walked over to hug me. She wrapped her arms around me and I wrapped mine around her.

"Just a little fender bender, that's all. No big deal."

"It's so good to have my partner back. No offence Mills."

I chuckled as we let go of each other. I smiled as I looked around the room at everybody. I really missed this place.

"How's the noodle?"

"Hard as ever."

Everybody started laughing and Matt walked over to me with a big box in his hands.

"A little something from us."

"Guys."

I opened up the box as Matt held onto to it and started laughing as I pulled out a bright red football helmet.

"A little added protection."

I pulled it out of the box and over my head.

"I love it."

"Welcome back Everly."

I smiled as I looked back at Chief.

"Thanks Chief. Thanks guys."

Everybody went back to what they were doing and I turned around and walked over to Kelly as I pulled the helmet off my head. He looked back as Chief walked away and I sighed.

"I'm going to tell him. Today."

I nodded.

"Great."

He nodded and I put my head down before walking over to the locker room. I set my things down on the bench and pulled my locker open. I quickly changed into my uniform and stuffed everything in my locker. I set the football helmet on the top of the locker and shook my head before walking over to common room. I sat down at the table and sighed as I pulled open a magazine that laid on the table. A few seconds later, Kelly walked over to me and bent down next to me.

"Come with me."

I turned my head towards Kelly.

"Where?"

"To tell Chief."

I nodded as I set my magazine down on the table and pushed myself up. I followed Kelly over to Chief's office and waited as he knocked on the door and pushed it open.

"Chief you got a minute?"

"Yeah what's up?"

Kelly pushed the door open all the way and walked inside. I walked in behind Kelly and closed the door.

"We need to talk."

Chief looked back at me.

"I'm just here for support."

Chief nodded and we all sat down.

"Hum, my shoulder injury it turned into something more serious. My C-5 vertebrae hum.."
