Everly

"Morning, Chief."

Chief shot Kelly a glare and I chuckled as we walked up the driveway.

"Morning. You sound too damn perky. Like a man who doesn't have a baby at home."

Kelly chuckled as he rubbed my stomach.

"Soon enough Chief."

Chief chuckled as he put his head down.

"I'm in a good mood becaude I have some great news Chief. Rice is ready to get back to work."

Chief furrowed his eyebrows as he looked over at Kelly who has just swung his arm over my shoulder.

"Scott Rice?"

Kelly nodded.

"Yeah, we got a spot to fill on Squad, so..."

Chief shook his head.

"Who says he's ready?"

"He does."

Chief shot at look at Kelly as we walked through the bay door and onto the apparatus floor. Kelly sighed as he looked down at me and I gave him a small smile.

"Look, if he says he's ready then i believe him.'

Chief nodded.

"Okay. I'll think on it."

Kelly nodded.

"Known him since before CFD. Back to high school. He's as standup as they come."

Chief held the door open that lead to the hallway and I gave him a small smile as I walked through it.

"I said I would think on that."

I walked down the hallway and over to my locker and changed before I made my way back to the common room to make myself some breakfast.

"Yeah, he's an old friend."

"Oh, Rice over at 31?"

Joe nodded.

"Yeah, he's a great guy."

"That man could tell a story.
What I remember, Rice was the kind of guy that always had to be the center of attention."

I smiled as I put cream cheese on my bagel. Joe was right, Rice did enjoy being the center of attention.

"Ahh, come on. You'd love working with him."

I finished putting cream cheese on my bagel and picked it up before I went to sit down with the guys.

"Scott Rice. Isn't he the one that got in a fight during a call and threw some guy out a third story window?"

"Yes!"

"Can the gossip. Severide wouldn't bring him in here if he was a problem."

The guys all nodded and out their heads down as I took a bite out of my bagel just as Mills sat down at the table.

"Who are we talking about?"

"Severide's buddy, Scott Rice. He might be taking Newhouse's old spot on Squad."

"Newhouse's?"

Joe nodded.

"You mean my old spot?"

"Mm-hmm."

Mills quickly got up from the table and Joe looked back at me and I shrugged as I continued eating my bagel.
