"People are staring again."- Jessica told Jay as they sat down for lunch. The school had been shocked when the rumor of their relationship went around. People couldn't believe that someone had tamed Jay and that of all people Jessica could have done it. Jay smiled at thought of it. He hadn't planned for this, being in a relationship was not what he'd seen in his future but he wanted to try it with Jessica.
"Let them stare!"- he said without looking around, his eyes remained on her. He found him watching her and she blushed. The pink shade coloring her cheeks and it made her cuter.
"Will you stop looking at me like that. You making it hard for me to breathe."- she said, avoiding his eyes.
"I'm glad I make you... Breathless"- he whispered.
She laughed, "you know for a Zulu man you are very... Seductive."
He smiled, they'd gotten to know each other over the past few weeks. She knew the names of his family members, after she'd nagged him for them. He wasn't open and he preferred it that way. Only his close friends knew his family members and he had few close friends. Happy on the other hand was like his sister. She is the only person who knew him and the only person who would...
"We all have our little secrets."
She started eating. She had a certain elegance she applied to everything she did. Even eating looked like an art when she did.
"How are things going with your brother?"- he asked, his tone was indifferent where Dylan was concerned and he tried his best not to sound too cold.
"He is still not speaking to me. He thinks you have some hidden agenda. He doesn't believe you could ever love me..."- her voice trailed of. "I didn't mean love I mean like. I mean... I... Er..."
Love, did he feel that for her. He cared about her but love...? That was too strong of a word.
"I like you Jess and me liking you has nothing to do with your brother."- he assured her.
He saw it the little spark of disappointment in her eyes. But she smiled and it reached her eyes, like it always did. He wished he could smile like that all the time. Jessica had an innocence to her that attracted Jay. He was light hearted and easy to be with. There was no intensity with her, well except the attraction they shared for each other. It burned inside him. Everything about him was intense so naturally Jessica was the perfect fit for him.
"Don't worry I believe you. I don't think that you'd heart me intentionally. I trust you."- she smiled at him.
Should she trust him? He wondered. He had a past and he'd never hide it from her. Well even if he tried, everyone knew he about his affairs, he couldn't lie to her. She was the light and he... He was the darkness. He was scared that at some point he'd have to be realistic about the future of their relationship. Right now he was living his dream. Being with Jessica and letting her love him. Watching her smile made his day. He was being selfish in living his dream because he knew he'd never let himself fall in love with her. This meant he'd have to wake you...
"You are just making my day Jessy. I think I might just keep this little pet of mine"- he kissed her. Just a friendly peck on the lips.
"Little?? I'm not little Mr! I'm a lioness."- she corrected.
"Right!"
He let them live in his dream because right now they were happy, he was happy...

Jessica was walking to class. The past two weeks had been amazing and everything she'd every hoped for. Jay was amazing and even though her friends had warned her about him he was proving a lot of people wrong. Theirs Relationship was making waves around school but they chose ignore what was being said about the and keeping what they had private. Once there were more than two people involved in a relationship things got messy she would allow that to happen to her relationship with Jay.
"Hey Jessica!"- a girl who passed by greeted her. They were few people on the corridors since the bell had rang five minutes ago.
"Hello!"- she greeted her back.
She was about to ascend the stairs when he dumped into one of Dylan's goons. She gave an involuntary groan.
"Well if it isn't Jess the traitor."- he taunted.
"Look don't have time for this, okay? I have a class to get to."- she was gonna pass by him but she violently crabbed by the her forearm and smashed in the wall. She felt the pain should to every part of her body and it made her gasp.
"What are doing? Get your hands of me!"- she was screamed. But her voice didn't reach anyone.
"I see you've taken a break from your school books to sleep with the enemy. Acting like a whore doesn't suit you."- he spat it like venom.
Her hand connect with his face and it left a sting on her palm. She hoped his cheek felt more than just a sting...
"You bitch!"- he spat putting his hand where her palm had hit. The disbelief in his eyes satisfied her.
"Arg please don't be bitter you couldn't have me and it doesn't sit well with you that I chose someone else... Someone better than you in every way possible..."- she let those words linger.
He raised his hand to strike her and she closed her eyes and flinched in anticipation.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you!"- he voice on top of the stair case warned. They both turned to see who it was.
Karabo, Jabulani's(Jay's) close friend.
"Get lost boy, this is none of your business."- he responded. Francis's disrespect for other races was disgusting. Anyone who wasn't white to him was inferior. That was one of the things that made Dylan "unfriend" him. It was always blacks vs whites, rugby vs football(soccer) but Francis always took it to the next level.
"Remove yourself from the young lady or I won't be held accountable for my action!"- Karabo's voice shook with anger and that was unusual for her. Karabo was the calm one in Jay's clique. He had a certain coolness to him that made him approachable but also dangerous.
"Oh yeah you and what army?"- he asked. Even though Jessica didn't lose her faith in Karabo but Francis's body was bigger than Karabo and that gave the enemy an advantage.
"He doesn't need an army but here we are!"- another voice came from behind Karabo. It was the rest of Jay's clique. Why weren't they in class?
"Run white boy! I doubt you'd want scars on that pretty little face of yours."
He let go of Jessica and she could finally breathe again.
"You disgust me"- he breathed and then he left.
She sank to the ground the sound of her heart beating deafening her ears.
"O shap?"- Karabo asked, as he came kneeled at her side.
"Ke shap, now that you are here!"- she responded. He laughed.
"I see Jay's been teaching you some phrases,uh?"- Karabo asked.
She was gonna respond but someone beat her to it.
"So they don't just kiss all the time?"- Thato asked in a mocking tone.
"Ah wena tjo, chilla!"- she told him. Everyone laughed at him. She was also surprised at her response and how good it sounded coming from her, her accent was no longer heavy.
"I love this white girl!"- one of the exclaimed.
"So, should you we accompany you to class?"- Karabo asked.
"Yes please."- she sighed. It was exaggerated.
She walked to class with the four boys. She asked the what they doing outside and Thato answered, "comes with the perks of being colts, we do as we please." He was smug and funny. He made thing light and easy. When she'd first met them the tension was high and you cut it with a knife. He'd been cold and rude but Karabo always came to her rescue and Thato would always apologize, though she doubted he ever meant it. And just like Karabo had said, Thato came around. They found mutual ground, That loved making jokes and she just laughed... At everything. She and Thato teased each other from time to time, nothing hectic just simple fun. She'd grown to like them and today they'd proved that they cared about her. Now as they walked her to class they made her laugh. They sarcasm was on another level and their girlfriends' always made life for them hard.
They walked into her class, all five of them. And people started chatting, one white girl with four black guys probably made good conversation.
"Mr Mofokeng, we would like to apologize on behalf of Jessica she was helping us with.... Something."- Thato did on purpose. He knew the whole class was listening and what people would think.
"Take a seat Jessica."- Mr Mofokeng told her. His suspicious gaze lingering on the boys. She did so.
"Thank you gentlemen!"- he gestured them to the door.
Thato winked at Jessica as he left and Jessica laughed and caught Mr Mofokeng's and the class's attention. She bowed her had in embarrassment and smiled to herself. Jay was the best thing that happened to her...
