Sleeping With The Enemy

Chapter 23

Her heart dropped to the bit of her stomach when she saw him.

With  her.

Boitumelo, Happy's friend. Gosh she was beautiful, Jessica noted bitterly. She'd heard some of the guys speak about her. She wasn't beautiful. She was sexy. She looked like a girl who could give you a good night. And Jessica couldn't compete with that. She was still a virgin for God's sake!

When Jay saw her approach the benches he stood up. Boitumelo's eyes never left Jay but Jay wasn't looking at her. He walked toward her and she could see Boitumelo looking at her with envy. She wanted Jay, she'd made that obvious. And Jessica didn't blame her. Jay was the kind of guy that made girls go crazy with jealousy. Not that he condoned it.

"We need to talk."- he said coldly
 
She looked at him. He was treating her like a stranger again. She felt sick.

"I agree."- she said curtly.

Jay looked around and Jessica eyes  followed his. People on the quad were looking at them curiously.  "Privately."

He drove them to the little hill that was behind the suburbs.  They had the view of the whole location. During different circumstances she'd have commented on it's beauty but reality didn't allow her to.

"Okay so what is it?"- Jessica asked, wanting to get this over and done with so that they could get back to their honeymoon stage.

"Fine. Are you a virgin?"

She didn't expect that question. She had an answer for that question. She'd never been ashamed of the truth but when she looked in his eyes, she hestitated...

There was something dark there. He looked haunted. She didn't want him to see her dilemma. She opened the door to his car and got out. She looked around. Her heart was pounding in her chest and palms were getting sweaty. She cold feel him behind her and she willed herself to turn.

She regretted it the minute she looked into his eyes. He didn't seem to care about anything but getting her answer. 

"Why are you asking me this?"

She was buying time.

"Because I need to know. I need to know what..."- he didn't finish his sentence. 

"What you are getting yourself into..."- she finished for him

His gaze on her hardened.

"Just answer the question."- he said dangerously. His voice was calm. He was always calm.

"This is ridiculous!" She looked at him. "Why is so important to you?"

He just looked at her.

"It's Boitumelo, isn't it? You have been talking to her."- she whispered. Humiliation washed over her.

"She has nothing to do with this!"- He growled.

Jessica took a step back. He'd raised his voice and Jay never lost control. He saw her shacky movement and his features softened. He walked toward her and she took another step back.

"Don't do that."- He pleaded. "You know I wouldn't hurt you, at least not physically..."

"Why are you asking me this?"

She wrapped her arms around her waist as if protecting herself from him. Her eyes never leaving the ground. 

"Look at me."

She didn't.  She couldn't.

He walked toward her and this time she stood still. He held her face in his hands amd tilted it so that she looked at him. She knew he could see her vulnerability. 

"I don't want to hurt you, Jess. I really don't. But if you are virgin..." His hands left her face and she missed their warmth. He used to be warm...

"I  not the type of guy you want to lose your viginity to."

"But that should be my decision! " she stomped her feet in frustration.
She saw him smile.

"You are so innocent, I'd hate to turn you into something sinister.  Right now we like each other and who knows when it might end. What if it's 3 weeks after we sleep together..? It would hurt you."

Like?

That's not what she
felt for him. It wasn't even close.

"W-What if I am...?" - She asked him.
She knew what the answer would be but she still couldn't help but ask. Tears started to blur her vision.

"Then this..."- he pointedfrom her to him. "Us, we can't go on."

She wanted to breakdown but for the first time in her life she didn't follow her instints. She blinked repeatedly to stop her tears from falling down her cheeks put on her poker face and stood her ground.

"Well...? Are you a virgin?"

She'd wanted him for so long. Dreaming of being with him but nothing compared to the real thing. He was perfect. He'd introduced her to Thato and the others. They'd started to feel like family. They understood her and she them. And Happy... She was now her closest friend. And all these things came with Jay...

"Jessica...?"

She looked up at him. He was being patient now. He was being the man she knew and loved.

"Please say something. "

She closed the small space that was between them, cupped his face as he had hers and she did what any sane woman would do...

"No, I am not a virgin."

She lied.
