Special Chapter 4

GRAYSON

I kept tapping my pen on the table while I'm in the middle of a meeting. The people inside the room looked nervous and uneasy for some unknown reason. I kept glancing on my watch. I wish this meeting will finish soon. I want to see Hillary.

"Attorney Andrews?" my colleague nervously called my attention

"Do whatever you want. I really have to go." I impatiently said and immediately left the room

Hindi ko namalayan na sumunod pala sa akin ang paralegal ko dala ang mga gamit na iniwan ko doon.

"Attorney, are you really leaving these cases to them?" Beth asked anxiously

"Beth, let me ask you a question. Where am I going?" seryosong tanong ko sa kanya

"Maldives?" hindi-siguradong sagot nito

"Who am I meeting?" tanong kong muli sa kanya habang nakahalukipkip

"Miss Hillary?" patanong muli na sagot niya

"And who is Hillary?" nakangising tanong kong muli sa kanya

Nawala ang pagtataka sa mukha nito at tumayo ng tuwid habang seryosong nakatingin sa akin.

"The love of your life, Attorney."

Lumaki ang ngisi sa labi ko at mabilis na tinalikuran siya. My firm will run smoothly even without me, I have competent partners and colleagues.

It's been a week since I last saw Hillary. Pabalik-balik ako sa Maldives kung nasaan siya ngayon. She'll be here in London in a few weeks but I can't wait to see her. I want to stay by her side.

"WHAT are you doing here again, Gray?" masungit na tanong nito sa akin nang pagbuksan niya ako ng pinto

I shrugged my shoulders at her and invited myself inside the house. Ilang araw din itong nagkulong sa kwarto noong bagong dating niya sa Maldives. She's not even speaking to anyone and I have to annoy her to make her speak. This woman is really handful but I love it. I love everything about her, even the scarred and broken version of her. She cried day and night before and she clings to me all the time. But now that she recovered a bit, she's pushing me away. I feel so used, just kidding.

"Come on. I know you missed me." nakangising sabi ko sa kanya

"Napaka-istorbo mo sa buhay. Wala ka bang trabaho?" umirap ito sa akin at tinuloy ang pagtitipa sa laptop niya

Her grandma started training her on how to handle their business and she's really doing an excellent job. But she's workaholic and I'm starting to hate it.

"Stop working, woman. It's almost midnight." I tried to scold her but I can't, she looks happy doing this job

"You know it's almost midnight but you still came here to bother me. And seriously, you can open the door using the duplicate key. Why do you even bother ringing the door bell?" halos matawa ako sa naiinis na itsura nito habang umiirap-irap sa akin

"Just want to check if you're still awake." tumatawang sagot ko sa kanya

"So annoying. You can use the usual room." masungit pa ring sabi nito at nagpatuloy sa pagtratrabaho

"That's enough." seryosong sabi ko sa kanya nang mapansing hindi ito titigil sa pagtratrabaho

Tiniklop ko ang laptop niya at walang sabi-sabi na binuhat siya. Sinubukan niyang bumaba mula sa pagkakabuhat ko pero hindi ko siya hinayaan na makababa. Wala rin itong nagawa hanggang sa madala ko siya sa kwarto niya. I tucked her to bed and told her to sleep. I was about to leave when she held my hand.
