****Alec's POV****He waited until Magnus passed out again before he left the small dungeon room. The grated metal door was shut quietly to prevent the Hunter from stirring. Though he doubted the human would anyways with all the pain medication he was on. The stones crunched under his claws, the soil underneath shifting with every step.
"Alec, there you are."
The smaller, lithe silver dragon slid in beside him. Her narrow angular face held the prestige of the fey while her winged arms kept the gentle sails tucked back. Helen Blackthorn was the oldest of all her siblings and also arguably the most mature. She was set to take over the Blackthorn spot on the council once her Father retired.
"Helen, how are you and Aline doing?"
"Good, very good. I've heard you brought some humans into the kingdom."
"Yes, not my preferred choice. I would've rather left them outside where we found them." He admitted. Alec could care less for most of the humans. And as for Magnus . . . Well, there were some things he just couldn't explain. Feelings were unusual and so impossible. It frustrated him to be feeling such things for this Hunter. He tried to kill Dad so why do I still feel this way?
"Heh. I expected as much. You never were a fan of humans," Helen said. Her scales glinted in the small gaps of light streaming in through the cave roof. This cave wasn't below ground like so many of the other settlements. There were plants growing here, weeds sprouting like vines as they stretched up the cold walls. Trying to remove them was like cutting off the heads of a hydra. Some of them were rampantly growing to the point where they blocked off entryways that had grown dusty.
"Yeah, you're not wrong about that. And Clary won't leave Jace alone kwhich just makes this more annoying," Alec said.
"Hahaha so that's the redhead I heard about from Isabelle. Have you told her about the predestined?" Helen asked.
He snorted. "It's one of the first things I did, but it seemed to only spur her on. I'll have to get some higher powers involved if she doesn't stop soon."
Alec knew Jace wouldn't like it, which is why he stayed his hand, but there came a point in time where a dragon had to get serious about their destiny. Dragons with predestined mates had to take the matter seriously. It was basically a betrayal to do anything less. Or at the very least that's the council's opinion. Isabelle and Jace always said the council was full of a bunch of stuffy old dragons who didn't understand today's youth. It grated on him that they saw him in the same light. He could be cool, adventurous, even dangerous if he felt like it. I just don't most of the time.
"Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if he did get mad. Glad it's not my problem," Helen said with an amused smile.
"Oh yeah. I could always make you the one to follow him around, make sure he stays away from Clary," Alec said.
Helen snorted. "If this redhead is as annoying as you say you wouldn't put me through that torture." The flaps of her wings frisked open slightly before going shut again.
And then there was a rumble that cut their conversation short. So wrapped up in speaking, neither of the younger dragons had realized that there was another dragon right there in front of them. None other than the king himself, Robert Lightwood.
"Dad."
"My king."
Robert dipped his head politely in Helen's direction. "Hello Helen, how are you? I've heard your little brother Octavian has finally learned how to fly. You'll have to offer him my congratulations."
