(Unedited).

"Frederick," Heathecliffe says from Fred's doorway.

"Yeah, bro?" Fred asks, eyes on the flat screen. He shoves a handful of chips in his mouth.

"Your parents have informed me that they will not be making it home this evening."

Fred frowns. Not that surprising. "Alright. But they're making it tomorrow, for Christmas, right?"

Heathecliffe looks down, his heart aching for him. "I'm sorry, Frederick. But they will be home after the new year."

"After the new year," Fred repeats. "Great. Okay. Fine. Thanks, Heathecliffe."

Heathecliffe nods and walks off. Fred's phone buzzes and he glances down at the screen. It's you:

Hey Freddie. How's your Christmas Eve?

He texts back:

Parents aren't coming in til New Year. Guess I'm alone this Christmas.

~

Twenty minutes later, you arrive at Fred's doorstep with a bag of everything Christmas. You ring the doorbell and Heathecliffe opens the door.

"Good evening, ___. What are you doing here so late into the day?" He asks.

"Fred texted me and told me that his parents weren't coming in this Christmas, and well, I find that just awful so I'm here to spend Christmas with him."

Heathecliffe smiles. "Wonderful idea."

You walk inside and go up to Fred's room. He sits on his chair, watching the TV. His face is emotionless, and he doesn't seem to be concentrated on the screen. You knock on the door and Fred glances over.

"___, what are you doing here?" He asks.

"Well, spending Christmas alone is no fun, so I'm here."

Fred smiles. "What'd ya bring?"

You open the bag and pull out a tub of ingredients for sugar cookies. Fred's eyes light up. "This-"

"Well, this is good enough for now. Let's do this!" Fred grabs your hand and leads you to one of the kitchens in the mansion. You laugh at his excitement. It was just too adorable.

"Okay, Freddie. We need a sheet pan," You say when the two of you set everything out.

"Of course," He says excitedly, going through the cabinets. He pulls one out and you roll out the sugar cookie dough. You tear a slab of dough off and give it to Fred.

"Just take a cookie cutter and make a shape," You instruct. Fred listens, making a snowman and a Christmas tree. You put them on the sheet. "Want to know what my mom used to do?" You ask. Fred nods. "She used to take the scraps of the dough and make decorations for the trees. Ornaments, stars, all that stuff."

Fred sighs. "I wish my mom did this kinda stuff with me."

"That's why I'm here, Freddie," You say with a sad smile.

~

After and hour of decorating and one tray in the oven already, you decide to use the remaining dough for a special cookie for the each of you. "It can be like a present for each of us."

"Okay," Fred says with a smile. "But I'm making you a kaiju."

You laugh. "That's what I wanted."

"Good!" Fred says. For the remaining time until the cookies in the oven are done, you and Fred make kaijus.

"Here, Freddie," You show him your cookie that looked just like Godzilla.

"Holy mother of Megazon! It's amazing! How are you so good at this?"

You smile. "I've been doing this every year."

"You're amazing," Fred says in awe. "Now look at mine." Fred's super hero suit sits on the counter.

"Aw, Freddie, it's you!"

"So it is," He says.

"Okay, Freddie. Let's put this tray in and take the other one out." Fred nods and takes the other tray out as you slide the last one in. "Okay, Freddie. Let this one cool. I brought sprinkles and colored frosting."

"You're the best," He says, grabbing a handful of silverware from the drawer. "This makes Freddie so happy! Let's decorate!" You laugh and spill the tray of cookies onto the counter.

~

Two hours later, the kitchen is cleaned and the cookies are decorated. Fred shoves a Christmas tree covered in snowflake shaped sprinkles in his mouth. "Let's take a plate to Heathecliffe," Fred suggests with a full mouth. You smile and nod, and you and Fred fill the plate with snowman, Christmas tree, holly, and angel shaped cookies. The two of you walk around until you find Heathecliffe, dusting a bookshelf in one of the libraries.

"Here, Heathecliffe," You hand him the plate.

"Merry Christmas," Fred adds. You smile up at him and Heathecliffe gives a smile of his own.

"Thank you very much," He says. Fred nods and grabs your wrist, dragging you back to his room.

"What else is in this bag?" He asks, digging through.

"Probably just decorations," You say. Fred stops rummaging and pulls out something. "What?" You ask. He smiles at you and dangles something over your head. You blush as the sigh of the dark green leaves and the white berries. "Oh, that's just mistletoe-"

"I know what it is," Fred says. He wraps his arm around your waist, raises the mistletoe over the two of you, and dips you. Your arms wrap around his neck and he smiles. He kisses you softly, eventually dropping the mistletoe and holding your waist with his other hand. The two of you pull away, smiling. "Thank you."

"For what?" You ask.

"Giving me the best Christmas ever," He says. "That sounds cheesy-"

"No," You say. "It's adorable. I love you, Freddie."

"I love you too."
