Cyan's POV
With a huge sigh, I throw myself on my towel. My body ached in places I didn't even know could ache. I had always been a water bug, but surfing really taught you what it was like to spend the day in the sea.
After a couple of seconds, I lift myself up on my elbows and look at my watch. It was already three in the afternoon and we hadn't eaten anything since breakfast. My stomach was rumbling and I wondered what we were going to eat for lunch. Luca was still out at sea, finally being able to focus on catching a couple of waves. I had taken up most of his time until now since I lacked in both confidence and knowledge. The waves had gotten a lot smaller than when we had arrived but they were still bigger than I was used to. I had spent the last six hours dealing with being the newbie among a group of very experienced surfers which hadn't been as embarrassing as I had feared. I was apparently a fast learner so they were all surprised that It was only my third time surfing.
Earlier, when I had finished changing, I had come out to a very intense conversation between the Karl guy and Luca. I hadn't heard it all but I'd understood that people who were new to surfing weren't really supposed to come to this beach. It was more of an unwritten rule but he seemed a little pissed off at Luca, who didn't really seem to care what this guy thought. Karl was going on about what Luca thought would happen if a 'man in a white suit' came along but I had no idea what he meant by that. Their conversation was cut off when they heard me close the door to the storage closet.
A man in a white suit... Hmmm. I still wondered what he meant
I'd meant to ask Luca but for the past six hours there had been no time for that. Luca had been a great teacher today and I was very grateful. He had taught me the importance of studying the water before you actually go in. He'd made it a point to highlight how important it was to pay attention to where the water breaks and study the pattern of the other surfers as well. We had then moved to the far right of the beach which was emptier and away from the more experienced surfers, or as Luca had referred to them - 'Big Dogs'. Luca made sure I started out with the smaller waves and I had eventually moved onto larger ones, which made me feel really proud of myself.
The sound of cheering snaps me back into the present. I hear someone call out 'Akaw!!" and I notice them all look at the a big oncoming wave. Luca is now further to the left with the other experienced surfers. He seemed to know most of them and a few of them had come to say hi whilst he was teaching me. The cause for the cheering doesn't come to me until I notice that Luca is getting ready to catch a very scary looking wave. Everyone's attention is on him as he starts paddling and effortlessly pops up onto his board. Luca rides the wave effortlessly and I am entranced by it, my eyes following his every move.
"Woah..." I whisper to myself.
"He is good isn't he?" Someone's voice interrupts my trance and Karl is standing beside me, watching Luca as he rides the wave.
"Yeah." I breath out. I sound surprised but I don't know why. I had never really expected him to be so good and look so natural. I had been watching everyone all day and although they were good, Luca just seemed to surpass their form, making it look effortless.
"Karl, by the way. I spoke to you earlier." He adds on and I eventually nod his way, taking my attention off of Luca.
"Yeah I know." I say.
