Death never came. But someone did. A boy a few centimetres taller than felicity and dark blonde hair so unlike hers. He stayed until dawn, then helped us stumble half awake back to camp. I saw my blankets and gratefully sank into them, I was sore everywhere from being so tense all night. Any rustle in the bushes could be the last thing we ever hear. But the only thing that happened was finding that guy, he too was our age. Now we were just a band of 13 year-olds in an apocalypse, Sam was the only exception, but she had still been in year 7 with us. It was about midnight when I finall drifted off to sleep.

Sunlight slanted through my closed eyelids making all I see red. I opened my eyes to a bright blue sky dappled by leaves, the first beautiful day in a week. I wished for the darkness of rain again so it matched the mutual feeling that all of them had, that there was no hope for the human race, that they would all die. It was true though, they would die, there was no point in living a whole life time with nothing there, but survival was an instinct, something built into your genome. I lay there thoughtfully for a minute longer before getting up and seeing Jason was not there beside me. Everyone but him and Hannah were in camp, milling about and chatting together. Jason and Hannah had seemed close before he and I had met, was he cheating on me?, I thought with suspicion, he wouldn't, would he?.

"Where are Hannah and Jason?" I asked as I walked towards the others,
"They went for a walk together, why?" My suspicion grew, but I spotted the boy Jason and I had met,
"No reason," I said, the lie rolling off my tongue easily, "what's your name?" I asked the boy,
"Bailey." He answered,
"I'm Reena." I said back, "thanks for the help with getting back last night,"
"You're welcome," he replied, and it was then when I realised he and felicity were sitting very close, almost too close,
"Well, I'm gonna go find Jason," I said casually, I heard Wilson mutter something I didn't quite catch but continued on.

Muted whispers came through the bush as I came close to the river. I stepped near silently onwards, slipping through the trees like a ghost. The sound of the quiet rush of water over pebbles and sand came to me as I came even closer, I knew for sure it was Jason and Hannah now, I knew their voices all too well, I knew I had to watch her from the start. But I hadn't thought she would stoop this low, or him, I thought he was so much better, not one to cheat, my thoughts spiralled out of control, he might just be having a conversation with her, I reasoned against myself. Their shapes came to me, blotted out in places by tree leaves but I snuck closer silently, but I knew my earlier suspicions had been correct when I saw them full force. They were standing so close that their skin was touching, Jason leaned down and she stood on her toes and their lips touched viciously, as if that's what he had wanted the whole time. That man-slut, I thought bitterly as I shook with rage, they pulled away as I growled, "Jason, you asshole!!" I yelled, my face was hot and blood rushed in my ears, I wanted nothing more than to wipe the barely contained triumphant look off Hannah's face with a bullet. It was then that I felt the strong presence of the gun tucked into my belt, I glared at them with my gaze full of malice, the betrayal I felt towards Jason was indescribable, so intense it was like being burned. Hatred, betrayal, malice, rage, I listed my emotions as I stood, I desired to strangle them and hide their bodies, go back and say they were run-aways, but I neglected the thought. My whole body quaked with rage now and my vision blurred with hatred, my knees shook so intensely that they buckled beneath me and I fell to the ground. Black spots edged my vision and Jason started walking over, he placed his hand on my jaw gently. I jerked backwards away from his hand,
"Don't touch me! Ever!!" I screeched, my voice cracking as I got up and ran,in the opposite direction to camp, I ran until the ground beneath me blurred to a brown-green mass, I ran until my throat seemed to freeze, I ran until my legs would no longer hold my weight, I ran until u couldn't breathe, until black engulfed me and I blacked out.
