Hyun-Ji sighed in resignation. It was a hard decision Rose had to make, one that didn't have a clear and correct answer, but it was one that Hyun-Ji probably would have made too.

"Thank you for telling me," she said softly.

"I hope this doesn't end our friendship," Rose said, just as quietly. "I really do care about you. All of you, but especially you and Jungkook being together."

"No, Rose, this doesn't end our friendship. Thank you for caring, and I care about you too," Hyun-Ji said.

Rose breathed an audible sigh of relief. "Thank you. For what it's worth, I don't care if Sujin is my friend, I think you two are soulmates, and I don't even believe in soulmates."

Hyun-Ji silently hoped Rose was right. She hoped that one day this ordeal would be a distant memory.

"Can I ask you something?" Hyun-Ji asked.

"Sure."

"How is it that you and Sujin are still friends but you're nothing like her? I mean, you're nice. You know the things she did, how she treated people back in school. But you became my friend when she hates me. Why?"

Rose chuckled softly. "I'm Sujin's friend because I haven't given up on Sujin like a lot of people have. Everybody has a story, everybody's been through something that makes them who they are, and she's no exception. But underneath her rough exterior is a good heart."

"I'll have to take your word for it," Hyun-Ji said.

"Trust me. She's far from perfect, but it's there. But I better run. I ditched my dad to call you and he's serious about family time. Love you."

"Love you, too," Hyun-Ji said, ending the call.

No sooner than she pressed the end button, a text appeared on her screen.

Kwan: Hey you😁
Kwan: Study group today?

Me: I'm sorry. I can't today.

Kwan: 😕
Kwan: It's been a while.
We miss you. 

Me: I have a lot going on today.
I'll make the next one.

Kwan: I understand.
You have a lot going on
right now.

Me: I do.
Me: Say hi to everyone
for me?

Kwan: Will do.
Kwan: I'm going to hold you
to that raincheck.

Me: Thank you.

Kwan: Later.
Kwan: Oh. One thing.

Me: ?

Kwan: You're doing an amazing job.
Don't forget your own happiness too.
You deserve it.
