LUCAS POV
"You won't be seeing me for a while."

He knew it was his voice- the same voice he'd hear all the time. The same voice of his when he was about 13 or 14, but never remembered any of those happening.

Lucas could feel the throbbing pain in his temples- the feeling of an incoming doom. He was getting sick, wasn't he?

From the moment he'd laid on his bed the previous day- he knew something was wrong. He'd stayed up all night from all the flashbacks he'd gotten. First one being talking to a tree, then, watching Athanasia play with a dog? The weirdest thing was not even knowing Athanasia existed until that very week. Could he have been forgetting things? Or could someone have been putting false memories into his mind?

Or, maybe, it was a past life, or something. But as much as magic were miracle workers- why and how'd someone let him remember his past life? It was impossible.

"Hey, hey, Lucas!" Athanasia gave an obvious whisper as she leaned close to him. It was the last period of school- homeroom with Mr White. He couldn't exactly understand what'd she was saying at all, something about Ijekiel seeing them after school. "What did he mean? Are we seeing him?"

Athanasia seemed excited- a tinge of hope sprinkled in her eyes. Lucas couldn't help but feel a little prick, however. "We'd usually have Bingsoo after school on Fridays- do you want to come?" He knew from the start- Athanasia was oblivious and naive. He couldn't bear to risk his feelings by falling for her.

Athanasia's eyes seemed to light stars in them, a big smile formed with her ecstatic expression. "Bingsoo?!"

Her excitement could fill the air- yet, catching the attention of their classmates too. Lucas could feel his heart skip a beat at her smile— face getting redder by the minute.

  "Bingsoo."

"I can come?!" Athanasia squealed, overjoyed and bouncing on her tip-toes.

"Why else would I ask you, you dumb dumb?"

•••

"Who's ready for some shaved ice?" Lucas could feel the arms wrap around his neck, Ijekiel's usual bear-strangle hug. "Can I say no?"

For some reason, Athanasia was oddly quiet. It was the end of the day— which she'd usually be jumping in triumph celebrating- yet there she stood, eyes fixed out the window as if she were lost in something.

Lucas couldn't help but feel concerned— not to mention, her shoelaces were untied. He'd gotten down on one knee as he looped the shoelaces like his parents' taught him as a child- the bunny goes round the tree.

"You're not a child anymore, you know?"

Both of them flinched at the words- as if something popped in their minds, a painful memory. To Lucas- it felt like one of the flashbacks- like a deja vu to him.

  "D-Did you see that too?"

Lucas furrowed his eyebrows. He wasn't the only one seeing those weird images that'd never actually happened. Even if they did- they must have been cosplaying or something.

Something was definitely wrong- something he couldn't quite put his finger on- yet he knew, roughly. That maybe, someone was doing this to them. Someone was trying to torture- or manipulate them with, possibly magic.

But there was one problem— he couldn't tell Athanasia that it was probably from mana- or magic.

  "Ijekiel-"

"I don't think we can have bingsoo today," Lucas's face was pale ashen white, completely flushed of colour as he stared into the blank space, lost in his thought. "Huh? Why? It's our weekly thing!"

"B-Because," Lucas took a deep breath. He'd thought of something- but felt as if Athanasia may hate him after that.

He wrapped his arms around her from the back, head resting lightly on her shoulder as he said, "I promised to take her on a date."

Lucas couldn't believe his own ears- or mouth. He could feel a prick in his conscience- and Athanasia's face rapidly heating up.

This was probably the end of him- hugging the director's daughter in school. He could feel his heart palpitating at this- wondering if she'd play along too.

"Mhm," he could hear, the scent of chocolate cake came flooding as Athanasia looked to him and mouthed, "I'm sorry."

Lucas could feel his heart jump out of his skin- his eyes wider than any other as Athanasia grabbed his hoodie, pulling him in to press a kiss on his lips— it was for pretend, but why did it just feel so real to him?

Their classmates were gasping- shocked at the sight of how a loser like him would actually have his first kiss to one of the prettiest and nicest girls in the school.

But things took a turn- he could feel his hood falling off his head, his hair swaying with the wind.

He could feel that skip in his heartbeat as the second went by.
