Piper's POV

Within an instant the five of us had our wands drawn, and were staring at the mouth of Salazar Slytherin.

"Oh no." muttered Monica, her hand shaking. I focused on the spot, but nothing seemed to be changing. After a few moments of silence, Will spoke up.

"What do you think's going on?" He asked. Nico shrugged.
"Dunno, but there's definitely something there. Or at least I think so..."
"Hazel?" I asked, turning to the dark-skinned girl. "You sense anything?" The dark skinned girl frowned, and shook her head. I turned to Monica.
"Do you think it was maybe a-"
"Hazel!" I heard a strangled gasp behind me, a whirled around to face the dark-haired girl.

She spasmed, her entire body seizing up, a look of shock on her face. Then, she exhaled, and fell to the floor, sending small ripples across the shallow pool of water. Oh god. Monica shrieked.

Within a second, Will was by Hazel's side, two fingers on her wrist.
"Pulse is normal..." he muttered, moving his fingers to her neck.

Hazel's eyes flew open, making my heart skip a beat. Her irises... were green. A brown hand flew to Will's throat, closing around his neck. He choked, trying to pry her hands away.
"Hazel!" Her eyes drifted to me, cold and uncaring. Will wrapped a hand around the flesh above Hazel's elbow, and pressed down firmly. Hazel let out a yelp; releasing an agitated Will who scrambled away.

"Get away from her!" said Nico, pulling Monica and I into the center of the room. "Gods, we really need our weapons now." He muttered, pulling his wand out. I nodded.
"You good, Will?" The blond boy nodded, a steely glint in his eye.
"What happened to her?" asked Monica, sounding breathless. We stayed silent.

"Do you think you could get our weapons, Neeks?"
"I could." mused the black haired boy, never taking his eyes of his sister, who was rising slowly. "You think you could hold her off?"
"Definitely." I said, pulling out my wand. Nico nodded, before slipping into shadows.

"Monica, get out your wand."
"Already done it." she said, her eyes focused on Hazel. "Why isn't she attacking?" I watched Hazel, who was standing stone still.
"She won't be for long."

At Will's words Hazel's head flew up, and she glared at us with emerald eyes.
"Leave." she whispered. I started at the voice that spoke, despite the fact I'd expected it. It wasn't her's.

It was low and gravelly, definitely male. It sounded like it hadn't been used in a while... kind of like what you'd sound like after you've woken up after a coma, I suppose.

"What do you want?" asked Will, gripping his want tighter.
"Leave."
"Hazel?" I asked, worried.
"Leave!" Hazel raced toward us, firing a white bolt of energy our way. I fell to the floor, pulling Monica with me.

Will shot back a disarming spell, which she reflected. I stood up, and threw a curse at her, which she also deflected. Monica scrambled to her feet, only to be knocked back down by what looked like a stunning spell.

"Cover me!" Will raced toward Monica, picking her up. Hazel immediately aimed a curse toward the two.
"Potegro!" Hazel turned to me, and fired a golden beam of light at me. I deflected it. A stunning spell. I did the same. She growled, started forward.

"Expelliarmus!
"Reducto!" The beams of light met in the middle of the room, throwing a shower of sparks over top of us. I grit my teeth, putting all of my energy into the spell. It made no difference. Hazel's face remained apathetic to my efforts and the light cluster slowly inched it's way up my spell toward me.

"Alarte Ascendare!" A blue beam of light joined the cluster and I felt my want being forced out my hands. Gripping tighter to the piece of wood, I stared at the white shower of sparks that flew up to the ceiling before disappearing. I looked behind me to see Monica sitting up with Will's assistance, pointing a shaking wand at us. Her eyes slipped closed and she slumped into Will's arms.

"Piper look out!" I heard a clang behind me and turned around to see Nico deflect a curse with his Stygian sword. I stared at it, the black metal barely an inch from my face.
"Thanks, Nico."
"No problem."

He tossed me my dagger before moving to my side. I shivered. Despite the fact I was used to fighting with Nico by now, the look on his face sent shivers down my face. But underneath his steely reserve, I knew he was torn. This was Hazel. His sister. I couldn't imagine it was easy to fight her.

For the first time, Hazel's face betrayed emotion, a small grin pulling at her lips.

"Oh this is going to be so much fun." Nico growled, running toward her. I followed suit. Within seconds a variety of curses were thrown toward us, a few of which I barely dodged.

Nico reached Hazel first, aiming a swing at her arm. Hazel growled, deflecting it.
"Nico, be careful!" I yelled at his, dodging a killing curse. " You don't want to steal her soul, do you?"
"It's not going to!" he responded, trying to knock Hazel's wand out of her hand. "I can control that part!"

"Sectumsepra!
"Gah!" a piercing pain flooding my flesh, almost making me black out. It was like my body was at war with itself; my heart beating a tattoo into my chest, lungs on fire and skin stretching. I screamed. I felt like my body was being torn apart, bit by excruciating bit. The pain was unbearable, and overwhelming.

"Piper!" I felt someone touch my arm, the pressure relieving the pain. Will. He bought his hand up to touch the side of my face, making me wince. A cut. "I need you to stay awake... okay? Okay??? Piper!"

Everything went black.
