Your POV

I let out a sigh as I walked into the big building my art class took place in. It was my last class of the day and I was pretty exhausted.

I walked into the classroom and sat down in my usual seat. I noticed the seat next to me was empty, which was odd. Veronica usually gets to class before I do.

I didn't think about it too much since it was still a few minutes before class actually started. I almost thought she wasn't going to show up, but smiled when she stumbled in a minute before the class started.

She sent me a smile as she quickly made her way over to me and sat down.

"Hey," she said as our professor walked in and placed his things down.

"Hey," I told her back as I watched her get settled. "I thought you were skipping for a minute there."

"No, I just lost track of time," she giggled.

We focused our attention on our professor as he explained that today we'd be free sketching because the model he had planned for us to draw had to back out.

"Well, I'm glad you made it. You make this class a little easier to get through," I admitted to the girl as everyone began to choose mediums.

I saw a light blush appear on the girl's cheeks as she smiled.

"I thought you loved this class," she told me as she pulled out her sketch book and chose colored pencils as her medium.

I shrugged at her statement. The class itself was alright, but sometimes it dragged on.

"So, what's new with you," I continued to converse as I pulled out my own sketchbook and a few pencils.

"Nothing really. The usual," she shrugged. "I'm being forced to go to an event this weekend but that's about it."

"An event?" I asked, curious about what she was talking about.

"Yea, my parents are hosting an event this weekend and they're making me go. I already know it's going to be boring as hell," she rolled her eyes.

"Oh, come on. It can't be that bad," I told her as I started an outline of a face in my paper.

I felt Veronica's eyes on me as she scoffed.

"I've been to plenty of events that they've hosted and I end up leaving halfway through every single time," she told me, making me laugh.

"Okay, I believe you. Hopefully this one isn't too bad," I smiled at her.

"I really wanted to bring a date this time. That might make it a little more bearable," she told me.

I felt her eyes on me again when she said that. I knew what she was hinting at, but I wanted her to say it.

"That's a good idea," I told her without taking my eyes away from my sketch.

"Yea, I thought so too. I just don't know who to bring," she mumbled.

I felt a little bad about killing her confidence, so I turned towards her.

"Anyone would be lucky to go with you," I said, making her look up at me. "Even if the event is going to be a drag."

She giggled at my statement, seemingly gaining her confidence back. She looked as if she was contemplating her next words carefully before speaking up.

"Would you want to come with me?"

I knew it.

"Sure," I told her, making her eyes light up.

"You know after all the shit I just talked about how boring it's going to be I really thought you'd say no," she told me with a laugh.

"I can't let you suffer through it alone," I told her as I turned back to my drawing.

We continued to talk as we sketched, the class passing by rather quickly. Soon enough the professor was letting everyone know that they could leave whenever.

I was done with my sketch, so I started to put away my things.

"Wow. That's pretty," Veronica said as she looked at the face I had drawn. "A little dark, but pretty."

I smiled at her joke as I looked over at what she had drawn. It was a landscape of a valley filled with trees and flowers. It didn't look finished, but it was still pretty good.

"Yours is pretty too," I told her. "It's colorful. I like it."

I couldn't help but laugh a little at how drastically different our sketches were.

"Hey, is it alright if I get your number?" She asked me with her phone extended in my direction.

"Duh," I said with a smile as I took her phone. "How else were you gonna give me details about this weekend?"

She laughed a little as I put in my number and gave her phone back to her.

"I'll text you," she told me with a smile before we said our goodbyes.

I couldn't help but smile a little as I walked out to my car. I was actually kind of excited.
