Mia pranced around the kitchen as she cooked dinner. She had a huge plan up her sleeve. She hoped that everything ran smoothly. She knew that Roman said he didn't want to meet Kathryn but, she decided to set up something anyway. Mia knew that her mom wanted to meet Roman, she was just scared of the outcome. Won't know until you try, right?

The door bell rung. Mia turned the stove down a little before going to answer. It was Roman.

"What's up." he closed the door behind him. "What you cooking? Smell good."

"Texas toast and Cajun shrimp pasta."

"It better be good." Roman chuckled a little. He sat down on the couch. "Mind if I watch TV while you cook?"

Mia smiled. She was so overcome with joy. She loved the relationship that her and her brother were starting to build. "Of course you can."

She went into the kitchen and finished up dinner. She sat the food on the table. As she was making punch, the door bell rung again. She answered to be greeted by Jared, Latoya, and Kathryn. Curtis, Kathryn's husband knew what was going on, so he decided to spend the day with Jeremiah and the baby.

"You ain't tell me you was having visitors." Roman stood up from the couch. "I can come back later if you want."

"No, I invited them over." Mia was nervous. "This is Latoya and Jared, our siblings. And this Kathryn, our mom."

Roman sighed, shaking his head. "Mia, I told you I didn't want to meet Kathryn. I'm leaving."

"Wait, Roman." Kathryn stepped closer to him. "Don't go. Please. I want to talk to you."

Roman sat down and Kathryn sat next to him. Latoya, Jared, and Mia sat across from them.

"Before you leave, just let me give you an explanation." Kathryn seemed to be happy to see Roman. "When I got pregnant with you, I was barley sixteen. I lived with my mom and she barely had enough to provide for us. She mad me choose, abortion, adoption, or get out." she began to cry. "For a while, I moved out and stayed with your dad and his parents. But things didn't go as planned. When you were born, I kept you for a month but we struggled to provide for you."

The room was so silent that you could hear a rat piss on cotton. They all were emotional.

"As a mother, I had to make a difficult decision. I decided that I wanted better for you. I wanted you to have the life that I couldn't give you. And now look at you." Kathryn grabbed his hands. "All grown up and handsome. I watched you for so many years, watching you grow. I was terrified to reach out because I was ashamed. And I'm so glad Mia reached out to you. She had the courage I didn't have. Roman-"

Before Kathryn could continue, Roman hugged her. He wrapped his arms around her, resting his head on her shoulder. They cried and cried. It was one of the happiest days of their life. Latoya and Jared hugged the two of them. Mia was happy and her mission was accomplished.

"Okay." Mia wiped her eyes. "Let's stop all this crying and let's eat before this good food get cold."

They went into the kitchen and sat around the table. They talked and laughed and ate. Roman told stories about his adoptive family and he really seemed to be happy.

"Roman, I want you to come to church with us Sunday. And we're also having dinner afterwards. Also, next week-"

Roman laughed, interrupting Kathryn. "Okay ma, slow down. I'll be glad to attend anything you have planned."
