It was much later the night and Maya was outside sitting on a bench.
Of course she knew everyone was inside but she needed a break.
She knew most people would hide from the cold but she enjoys it.
She doesn't get out a lot and she knows that this won't happen soon.
Maya hears footsteps and guesses who it is.
"And if you're out here on your own?" Josh asked and sat next to Maya.
"Came to get fresh air. I enjoy it here," Maya said.
"You miss your mom, don't you?"
Maya looked at Josh and instantly knew that he had only guessed.
But it was so true.
She did.
She did miss her mom.
Maybe even her father.
"I do," Maya said.
"Why don't you call her then? How bad can your relationship be?" Josh asked and saw a tear was escaping from Maya's eye.
"I'm sorry," Josh said knowing it would mean something.
He stretched his arm behind Maya and pulled her close to him.
Feeling each other so close definitely helps to feel better.
For Maya anyway.
She hadn't trusted a lot of people in her life but she knew she could trust Josh.
She just knew it.
But maybe she is a little bit wrong.
She'll have to wait
