It was a few days later and literally in twenty-foir hours it's Riley's sixteenth birthday.
Maya is so excited for her.
The two best friends do have their birthdays a bit confusing.
Riley's birthday is on December 8th and then on January, 16th, Maya will be turning seventeen.
So Maya is a whole eleven months older than Riley and on Valentine's it's Josh's twenty birthday.
A lot of birthdays very close to each other and then after Riley's it's Christmas and then New Years.
There is a lot going on towards celebrating.
Maya was busy with writing when Josh saw her sitting alone.
And he just thought that she was busy with homework.
But clearly not.
"What homework are you doing?" Josh asked.
"None. I'm writing a song for Riley for tomorrow," Maya said.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Yeah," Maya said and looked at Josh.
They had decided to give each other a change and maybe someday they could happen.
But for now they're just friends with benefits.
"Do you write your own stuff? Like the song you sang at Thanksgiving. It didn't seem familiar," Josh said.
"I do. It keels me busy. I wonder how long the renovation is going to take at school," Maya said.
"Already missing home?" Josh asked.
"I actually just miss my mom. Can you believe it? Our relationship isn't very stable but the times I do see her I am eternally grateful. My life could have been so much different and even though my dad did leave two years after the wedding I am grateful to have what I have."
"I think that's the best way to go through life," Josh said.
He smiled at Maya before getting up again.
He really doesn't know what he means to Maya and if he did he won't be able to make it.
It was late the next afternoon.
Riley had opened all her presents and of course what made everything special is that all her friends, both her parents, her brother and her uncle was there.
She really is lucky.
"Okay so you have one more present," Josh said.
"From who?" Riley asked.
"Your dear friend, Maya. Let me just get it," Josh said and disappeared.
"Ready?" Josh asked.
"Yeah."
Josh went on a stage and grabbed a mic.
"Attention everyone. So today is my little niece's sixteenth birthday and her best friend as something extra special for you. So ladies and gentlemen. Maya Hart!"
Music started playing then Maya appeared.

"Happy Birthday Riley. I hope you had an incredible day and enjoy the rest of your birthday."
Maya climbed of the stage and went to hug Riley.
"That was amazing," Riley said.
"Yeah. How do you write and rehearse a song in less than 24 hours?" Josh asked.
"I just do," Maya said.
"Most definitely my favourite birthday ever. Thank you Maya."
