"Hey LJ, wanna go to a party tonight?" Chris asks while popping a fry in her mouth.
I shake my head. "As much as I want to... I don't want to."
She rolls her eyes and gives up easily. I knew she just invited me so she wouldn't feel guilty, but Chris already knew my thoughts on parties and public events. In other words, I don't go out.
"Speaking of staying at home— you're good at calculus right?"
I narrow my eyes and try to figure out where Chris is going with that question. "Yes."
"Someone needed help with calculus and I owed him a favor, so I gave him your number."
"Wait, you gave my number to someone random? Chris! What if that person secretly locates my house and does something bad to me?" I ramble on. "Who is he?"
Chris covers my mouth with her hand. "I can't tell you. I specifically signed a contract that said I couldn't say his name."
The first bell rings which means that lunch is finished. "What!?"
"LJ, it's going to be okay... If he does anything bad, I'll go kick his ass." Chris stands up. "And since lunch is over, I have to go to boring old english."
When school is over, I find myself peering over my phone more than I should. I hate waiting for someone to text me back even though I know they're going to text me anyway.
"Lara Jean, you okay?" I look up from across the table to see Kitty chewing on her sandwich.
I nod my head and place my phone in my pocket. "Yeah, I'm fine." Buzz. I slap my hand back to my pocket and take out my phone to see an unknown number appear on my screen.
"You're acting so weird." She picks up her plate and steps away from the table. "I'm going to go watch TV."
Once Kitty watches TV, I open my messages to see the text.
unknown: hey! is this the right number?
me: i would hope so, who is this again?
unknown: good then, look i can't really tell you my name cause i don't want anyone knowing about this
me: there's nothing wrong with asking for help, even if you're close to failing this class... especially knowing you need a tutor!
