Beep.
Beep.
Beep.
I shot up clutching my chest. I blinked to gain my eyesight only to see that I was sitting up in a garden. "What the hell?"
"I figured this would be better than a hospital bed." I spun to see someone that looked my age with jet black hair and tons of ear piercings.
This can't be.
"Kasey?" I asked.
"In the flesh, how's it going niece?"
She held her hand out to me and pulled me up. "Um, I-"
"I know, you're wondering why sunflowers?"
"I actually wasn't."
She laughed, "They're Maddy's favorite."
"Maddy's my favorite parent right now."
She nodded and I followed her to a bench.
"What am I doing here?"
"You're in surgery so I took my chance."
"Chance?"
"To meet you. The last time I saw you, you were nine days old."
"Crazy what 17 years does."
"No kidding."
I looked at my aunt. I've grown up with the stories and the memories but here I was here, with her. I know this was a dream but it still felt so real.
"I'm sorry about Sam."
I looked up as she referenced my mother, "She used to be fun." I laughed.
"I wouldn't be surprised."
She shrugged, "What do I know."
"A lot," I responded. "I wish they talked about you more. I don't really know you."
"You remind me so much of me." She said as she grabbed one of my loose red curls.
"I do?"
"You're a strong woman. And dedicated. Determined."
"I try."
"You do."
"Thanks for telling my mom to keep me."
"Oh Casey. She was going to keep you even without me."
"Can I hug you?"
"Of course." I pulled my aunt Kasey in for a hug.
"Will you do something for me?"
"Anything," I responded.
"Will you tell Maddy and Tommy that I called it. He was totally a boy toy."
"Am I supposed to know what that means?"
She laughed, "Tell Maddy I was there."
"Where?"
"I am a beautiful mistake."
"What do you mean?" Kasey stood up.
"Where are you going?"
"You have to wake up, love."
"Wake up? Wait!" I called after her.
"Casey?"
