A lot of people are asking for more or less an angsty Jared, but here you go!

ZoexJared

Jared gripped his phone angrily as tears started to sting his eyes.

Jared felt so many things that numbed him.

Frustration.

Anger.

Yet also mourn.

His friend, Evan Hansen, had used him for his own benefit. Well, he was his "so called friend" now. Now he was only a family friend.

Jared chucked his phone across the room and heard the glass shatter as he covered his face with his hands, tears slipping through the cracks between his fingers.

Jared restrained some sobs and cleared his throat of a few more helpless cries as his phone began to ring.

I thought I broke it, Jared thought.

Jared crawled over to his shattered phone. He squinted his eyes and tried to form out whoever was calling him, a blurry photo and name of someone appearing on the so-called screen.

Zoe Murphy.

Jared swiped his phone on the shattered glass, cutting his finger immediately.

"Fuck!" he screamed, sucking on it so blood wouldn't spill. His mom was gonna kill him when she found out about another cost.

"Jared? Are you okay?" Zoe asked through the phone.

The phone must have been on when he cursed.

Jared sighed and accepted reality. "N-No, I'm not. Okay? IS THAT WHAT YOU WANTED TO HEAR!?"

"I'm coming over, hang tight."

Jared made sure to correct his mistake and wait for the phone to hang up before beginning to sob again. What was he supposed to do now? Evan was his only friend, Alana didn't seem like one. He felt his world shatter as his sobs projected louder and louder. He took off his glasses as he wiped his eyes, even if it had no effect whatsoever.

There was a brief knock on his door, which made him yelp and cover his mouth, feeling the crimson blood of his finger now on his lips.

"Jared? Can I come in?"

Jared sucked in a breath, not realizing he had been crying for so long. With a shaky breath, he replied "Yeah".

Zoe opened the door softly and closed it again, standing there.

"What happened?"

"I-I don't even know anymore, Zoe-" he broke off into more sobs, burying his face in his hands that were now on his lap as he sat there, on the ground.

Zoe immediately rushed over to him, hugging him to her chest. She had never really been his friend, sure she sometimes checked up on the Connor Project and all that and had to talk to them, but she never really got to know him. All she saw, and what anyone saw, was a cocky and hilarious highschooler.

But now what was she witnessing?

She got zoned back as she felt his hands now move to her wrists, gripping hard. She looked down and saw that some of her left wrist was smeared with blood.

"Jared! You're bleeding!"

Jared just looked up with bloodshot and puffy eyes, shrugging.

Zoe got up and looked around his room for band-aids. Surely that had to be some in his mess of a room. She walked to his shelf of gamer projectiles and random consoles when she found some band-aids beside a Legend of Zelda poster. She took one and took off the paper around it,  wrapping it around Jared's finger.

"Thanks." He sniffed.

Zoe kneeled down and looked at Jared. "Now tell me everything."

Jared took some breaths to calm down as he stared at the ground.

"All my life I was seem as nothing. I wasn't all that smart, I was never active, and people could see that. But then I was introduced to Evan Hansen- a family friend, so to speak, but then he became my personal friend. We always joked around about being 'only family friends', and he made me feel right at home. He was someone who would always want to hang out with me for me. Until he got used me in the stupid Connor Project and just treated me like I was his puppet."

Jared looked into Zoe's eyes as his lip quivered. I'm acting like such a child, he thought.

"Now my life has turned into a mess, leaving me with absolutely no one."

He got his glasses and put them on, seeing as there were no more tears left in him.

"So how's your life been?"

Zoe pulled Jared's lead to her lap as she ran her fingers through his hair.

"Look Jared, I know it's tough. I haven't had a friend use me, it was my own brother. He yelled and fought at me- abused me. I always knew no one wanted to be his friend, so I was suspicious when I found out he was someone's friend. Then the Connor Project happened, and I was still suspicious. At that time, it seemed like  only savior was Evan. But now I know that everything that everything he did leading up to this moment was just so he could be with me, and that's not okay."

Jared looked up at Zoe slightly. "Can we admit that Evan's an asshole?"

Zoe smiled. "Correction: will remain an asshole."

Jared chuckled and nodded, realizing that in the end, he did have someone after all. "Couldn't have said it better myself."

Zoe Murphy.
